Leidos Unmanned System Systems Engineering Lead in Arlington, Virginia

Description

The Maritime System Division (MSD) of Leidos’ develops and deploys advanced technology solutions that address existing and emerging maritime missions of national importance for a broad range of customers across the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, other governmental agencies and commercial clients. MSD is currently seeking a qualified, energetic technical leader to fill a leadership position on our Unmanned Surface Vessels team. This team works on distributed sensors, control systems, and the “brains” of robot boats used by a variety of customers.

As a systems engineer, the candidate will collaborate with customers and the Leidos team to understand requirements, build plans for verification, and help build product backlogs used for the advancement of Leidos’ autonomy programs. They will be integrated with other engineers on the team to ensure that every effort has systems engineering at the center. They will also supervise engineers working on the team, providing coaching and guidance.

Current and future projects span advanced concept and prototype development, low-rate initial production and full-rate production. Position will require regular travel to and coordination with engineering activities at other Leidos facilities, in multiple locations across the United States.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise software/systems engineers

  • Provides support to program leadership in our Autonomous Surface Vessel business area

  • Coordinate and prepare for daily, weekly, and ad hoc meetings, to include development of agendas and report progress, working with internal and external stakeholders

  • Collaborate with MSD managers and other technical leads to support capture and relative business development activities

  • Supervising field tests of unmanned systems

  • Own tasks, in collaboration with the team, taking the initiative to come up with solutions and the integrity to make sure they are done right

Basic Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. 4+ years’ related experience

  • Experience in a Linux environment with software development, including experience designing solutions to complex problems and turning them into implementation plans

  • Ability to communicate effectively in email and spoken media

  • Experience leading technical activities and guiding teams

  • Ability to support a team, and establish collaborative working relationships with government customers, technical staff, senior managers, and peers.

  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience with Scrum or SAFe development processes

  • Must be a US Citizen and either currently hold a Secret security clearance or have the ability to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Project

  • Experience with C++, Java, C, or Python

  • Experience in a maritime environment

Pay Range:

Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00
