Burns & McDonnell Staff Distribution Engineer (Arlington) in Arlington, Virginia

Description

Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for both overhead and underground projects, including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design. Develop and prepare design sketches, cost estimates, bill of materials, and other required deliverables. Perform various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations. Apply strong knowledge of NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures. Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers. Perform field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private utility systems. Prepare and disseminate project communication regarding vegetation management, third-party attachments, right-of-way, and outage planning. Develop client presentations, reports, and visualizations to demonstrate technical results and project status. Comply with all policies and standards. Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year. Primarily domestic travel up to 25% for internal meetings, project site, and client visits.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET-accredited program plus three (3) years of electrical distribution engineering experience.

Must have three (3) years of experience in each of the following:

  • Electrical distribution power flow (2.4kV-34.5kV).

  • Utilizing distribution design software (GE Smallworld (TED), ESRI ArcGIS or similar) and GIS to aid in design.

  • PoleForeman or equivalent pole modeling and structural analysis software.

  • AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, or equivalent drafting tools.

  • Easements, right-of-way, and permitting for distribution projects.

  • General electrical distribution engineering services revolving around grid improvement initiatives including: distribution automation; extreme weather hardening; make-ready engineering; voltage conversions.

Alternatively, the employer will also accept a Master’s degree in Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET-accredited program plus two (2) years of electrical distribution engineering experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus three (3) years of described experience.

Must have two (2) years of experience in each of the following:

  • Electrical distribution power flow (2.4kV-34.5kV).

  • Utilizing distribution design software (GE Smallworld (TED), ESRI ArcGIS or similar) and GIS to aid in design.

  • PoleForeman or equivalent pole modeling and structural analysis software.
