Amazon Software Developer Engineer, EC2 Core Platform - Substrate Services in Arlington, Virginia

Description

Come join the AWS EC2 team that builds and owns the software that operates DHCP, DNS, and HTTP Proxy at scale, across all AWS regions world-wide. With unprecedented scale, comes exciting challenges. You will work closely with stakeholder across Amazon Web Services (AWS) to design, implement, test, and support solutions for systems at scale to improve, sustain, and optimize our services. You will respond to operational events involving these fleets and participate in the on-call rotation to diagnose and resolve critical software and system failures. You will have the opportunity to design and build systems with massive scale. You will propose, drive and implement technical solutions for automation, efficiency and scalability.

Key job responsibilities

Develop infrastructure-as-code software to stand-up large distributed services

Design fault tolerance and disaster recovery solutions

Identify and remove scaling bottlenecks in large-scale distributed systems

Develop and maintain AWS region awareness features

Work with other engineers to build and manage massively scaled services

Work with other engineers to diagnose and resolve customer issues

Understand and implement security and operational best-practices

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
