Jacobs Senior Mechanical Engineer - TS Clearance in Arlington, Virginia

Jacobs has an opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer supporting our long-term project in Washington, DC.

Position Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will have essential multi-discipline team representation and be self-motivated, well organized, and customer focused. This position will be working with our Federal group as an owner’s representative. The Senior Mechanical engineer will act as a consultant in the establishment of MEP design standards and criteria for construction projects. Provide expert mechanical engineering support based on these requirements:

  • Perform and interpret cooling load calculations.

  • Read ductwork layouts.

  • Understand ducted and plenum return air systems, including Z-ducts and U-ducts in the design.

  • Understand different mechanical systems. Review the advantages and disadvantages of each system. 

  • Review the mechanical system layout in the specialized room such as the data closet and the communications room.

  • Ensure compliance with the client’s Construction Standards. 

  • Understand watts per square foot ratio for various rooms within the client’s programs.

  • Review drawings and ensure compliance with the POR, Campus Design Guides and Construction Standards, as well as with local codes. 

  • Write and review sequence of operations for various HVAC systems. 

  • Review various 24/7 mechanical systems and determine which system complies with the client’s requirements. 

  • Participate in commissioning of mechanical systems at the end of each project. 

  • Calculate life-cycle analysis of various HVAC systems. 

  • Work with team to develop cost estimates for various HVAC systems. 

  • Write scope of work for HVAC systems. 

  • Review air and water balance reports (TAB). 

  • Perform construction administration duties, such as reviewing RFIs, field reports, and submittals. 

  • Act as a consultant in the establishment of design standards and criteria for construction projects. Provide expert mechanical engineering comments based on these requirements. 

  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance during construction. 

  • Assist in the development of reports, studies and presentations.

  • Collaborate and assist in resolving critical and possibly controversial issues with a multi-disciplined team of architects, engineers and federal agency clients.

  • Exhibit resiliency if shifting priorities require reprioritization of workload.

  • Guides and Construction Standards. Suggest edits or updates to these documents, as applicable.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering

• Proficient in current version of AutoCAD software.

• 10 years of experience in HVAC building design and construction.

• Active secret clearance and ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.

Ideally, You’’ll also have:

• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferrable.

• 20 years of HVAC building design and construction experience.

• Federal design and construction experience
