Amazon Principal User Experience Designer, PXT Central Science in Arlington, Virginia

Description

We are seeking a customer-obsessed Principal User Experience Designer to define, articulate, and champion the future vision for how we work and the employee-facing experiences at Amazon.

In this role, you will excel at investigating, understanding, and designing experiences that balance customer desirability (what employees want) with business viability (what the company needs). Your passion is translating abstract concepts into solid design deliverables such as complex workflows, wireframes, user interface designs, interaction models, and prototypes.

The ideal candidate approaches challenges with clarity and empathy, inspires others, and is driven to solve problems at a massive scale. As a hands-on creative leader, you will establish a vision and strategy, always putting the needs of our customers (Amazon employees) first.

In this cross-functional role, you will collaborate with business units, product teams, and executive leadership to identify and execute on opportunities. You will distill customer insights into actions that benefit the organization, serving as the voice of the employee with senior leadership.

Key job responsibilities

  • Delivering complex design solutions where the product strategy may not be fully defined

  • Analyzing customer problems and data to design delightful solutions at scale

  • Leading strategic alignment across teams using expertise in UX disciplines and processes

  • Creating user-centered designs through research, analysis, and close collaboration with product and business partners

  • Quickly generating user flows, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to conceptualize new initiatives

  • Clearly communicating design work to leadership an across different audiences

  • Mentoring other designers and raising the bar for design quality

  • Applying systems-level design thinking to drive scalable solutions

About the team

The Central Science Team within Amazon’s People Experience and Technology org (PXTCS) uses economics, behavioral science, statistics, machine learning, and design to proactively identify mechanisms and process improvements which simultaneously improve Amazon and the lives, well-being, and the value of work to Amazonians. We are an interdisciplinary team, which combines the talents of science, research, design and engineering to develop and deliver solutions that measurably achieve this goal.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of design experience

  • Have an available online portfolio

  • Experience with best practices for User Interface Design, Information Architecture, and Interaction Design

  • Experience in life cycle design projects from design strategy through execution

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing and effectively communicating strategic and tactical recommendations based on data

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $147,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $244,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
