Amazon Food Safety Culture Manager, Food Safety in Arlington, Virginia

Description

A strong food safety culture is a pre-requisite to effective food safety management. To advance the food safety performance of an organization, one must go beyond the traditional basics of risk assessments and acquire a better understanding of human factors, such as organizational culture, behavioral science principles, and behavioral change theories and models. We are hiring a Food Safety Culture Manager to strengthen our food safety culture, leverage proven behavioral science and organizational cultural principles, and elevate compliance as a critical dimension of Amazon’s overall culture.

Key job responsibilities

• Develop a food safety culture strategy.

• Design and implement innovative strategies that go beyond knowledge and awareness, focusing on driving behavior change among employees regarding food safety.

• Conduct behavioral assessments to understand current behaviors related to food safety and identify gaps or areas for improvement using data-driven insights.

• Develop and deliver training and education programs, incorporating behavioral science principles to encourage lasting behavior change.

• Collaborate with cross-functional leadership to embed food safety behaviors into Amazon's culture, aligning values, incentives and recognition programs to promote and sustain positive changes.

• Implement engaging communication initiatives to promote food safety behaviors leveraging various channels like newsletters and intranet platforms.

• Utilize feedback mechanisms and performance metrics to monitor the effectiveness of behavior change interventions and adjust strategies as needed.

• Stay abreast of behavioral science research and best practices. Explore and pilot new technologies or methodologies to enhance effectiveness and engagement.

A day in the life

You will be responsible for developing a food safety culture strategy - our North Star vision along with a detailed plan and how we'll measure progress. This means seeking feedback and collaborating with a range of stakeholders from Food Safety, Operations, Private Brands, Supply Chain to Legal. It also means leveraging food safety and behavioral science knowledge to drive behavior change at scale.

About the team

The Food Safety team is in place to enable Amazon to offer safe, compliant food products customers can trust. The team mitigates food safety risk and protects customers from foodborne illness, allergic reactions and otherwise unsafe products, and protects Amazon’s brand and reputation.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in food science, behavioral science, psychology, organization development or equivalent

  • Experience in behavior change management in food safety or related industry

  • Strong understanding of behavioral science principles and their application in driving behavior change

  • Excellent communication, facilitation and coaching skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and influence stakeholders at all levels

  • Proficiency in data analysis and evaluation to inform decision-making and strategy refinement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in behavioral change methodologies

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $119,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $198,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
