The ideal candidate will lead the dynamic TechOp team headquartered in Washington, DC, and support TechOp's clients with the release of information under the Freedom of Information Act.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive project plan for each FOIA request, outlining key milestones, deadlines, and responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for FOIA requesters, providing timely updates on the status of their requests and addressing any inquiries or concerns.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff members involved in the FOIA process, ensuring that they understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Analyze records received and determine if outside equity or additional internal coordination is required prior to release of the documents
  • Maintain accurate records of all FOIA requests received, including correspondence, documentation, and response times.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to allocate resources, including personnel and documents, needed to fulfill FOIA requests.
  • Manage and control all physical and electronic records maintained by the FOIA program
  • Create and maintain accurate records of FOIA requests and progress
  • Generate and disseminate all necessary FOIA reports.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 5+ years of FOIA Of experience
  • 10 years total of experience managing FOIA requests or related projects within medium to large teams in a government agency or private sector
  • In-depth knowledge of FOIA regulations, exemptions, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working with FOIA software or electronic document management systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite
  • Ability to read and interpret FOIA legislation and apply it to specific cases
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to pass a background investigation
