Sinclair Broadcast Group Digital Multimedia Journalist in Arlington, Virginia

7News DC (WJLA-TV) has an exciting opportunity for a Digital Multimedia Journalist (MMJ). Responsibilities as a Digital MMJ will include reporting, shooting, and producing content for wjla.com and our social media platforms . To succeed in this role, you must be well-versed in the language of the internet, hyperaware of social trends, and possess the ability to articulate a creative vision.

No day will look the same as a Digital Multi-Media Journalist, however, the main responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Create, shoot and write meaningful stories focused on daily news, breaking coverage and events that impact our community

  • Attend daily Content Strategy Sessions, and pitch/produce original social content surrounding daily news and major station coverage events

  • Create content that will take on many forms including, but not limited to, static images, image carousels, short-form video, vertical video, video packages and graphics

  • Should be a social media connoisseur with extensive familiarity with all platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, and X

  • Review daily broadcasts, digital content, and raw video, and repackage selected content into engaging social segments and moments

  • Review social and digital analytics and translate them into actionable steps to increase engagement and content performance

  • This position requires impeccable spelling and grammar, a deep understanding of social media trends and what works on each platform

  • Must have vertical video-producing skills and the ability to capture well-composed videos on a phone

  • The ability to react to and post breaking news quickly and accurately is a core expectation of this position

  • Work closely with all members of the news department and creative services department.

Additionally, This Person Should Have A…

  • Must have experience in news or other editorial background

  • Proven knowledge and experience working with current media creation tools

  • Excel in storytelling across multiple platforms

  • Must have strong writing and copy-editing skills are a must

  • Must have working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Premiere Rush, Photoshop, After Effects, etc.), and other creative software

  • Must be highly motivated, extremely organized, and come to the position with a uniquely creative mind

  • Must be comfortable with ambiguity and change that may come as our team evolves over time

  • Must be able to work well under pressure to meet deadlines

  • Applicants with experience in front of the camera, and a strong personality to match are a plus.

This Digital MMJ position is ideal for someone with at least two years of professional newsroom experience.
