Amazon Associate Corporate Counsel, AWS Energy & Water in Arlington, Virginia

Description

Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented utility lawyer in Arlington, VA or Seattle, WA to fill the position of Associate Corporate Counsel to support Amazon Web Services (AWS), a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. AWS is at the forefront of the "cloud" computing and service industry, providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, browsers and more. This position will support AWS’s energy and water teams in working with utilities, constructing new infrastructure, and piloting innovative projects in support of The Climate Pledge, which commits Amazon to being powered by 100% renewable energy by 2030 and 100% net zero carbon by 2040 – ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement.

Key job responsibilities

As Associate Corporate Counsel, you will partner with AWS’s business teams to support energy and water supply, infrastructure, and services agreements and provide guidance on working with private and governmental utilities. You will have responsibility for structuring, drafting, and negotiating agreements, and counseling internal business partners on:

  • Utility interconnection agreements

  • Unique water supply and/or reuse arrangements

  • Vendor agreements, including engineering, design, and construction agreements

  • Sustainable initiatives

  • Energy and water strategy more broadly

You will work directly with the various business teams to provide day-to-day advice, resolve issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, handle pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries, and manage outside counsel for our current and new regions around the globe. You will also be responsible for identifying opportunities for, and implementation of, process improvements. You will also interact with our Public Policy, Public Relations, Accounting, Finance, Economic Development, and Tax teams.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of legal experience

  • Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work

  • Experience in utility engagement and agreements.

  • Familiar with energy regulation, infrastructure, or construction

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $195,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
