Police Sergeant

West Region- Azle, Southwest, Cleburne, Clear Fork and Stephenville

Work location: West Region- Azle, Southwest, Cleburne, Clear Fork and Stephenville

Work hours: Full Time, 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Qualifications - External

Here’s What You Need

Education

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent is required

  • Associate's Degree Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Security or closely related field is preferred

Experience

  • 3 Years of Law enforcement experience to include 1 year Security or law enforcement supervisory experience is required and

  • 2 Years Healthcare or education security experience is preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • DL - Drivers License Class C and must be insurable Upon Hire is required And

  • Peace Officer Upon Hire is required And

  • Other Field Training Officer Certification 12 Months is required And

  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training 14 Days is required And

  • ACPI - Advanced Crisis Prevention Intervention Training maintained annually 30 Days is required

What You Will Do

Supervise operations on assigned shifts:

  • Leads briefings for officers and distributes equipment

  • Responds to calls for service and disturbances.

  • Reviews, completes, and approves shift paperwork and reports

  • Participates in the Texas Health Threat Assessment Team for assigned area and monitors for correct utilization.

Performs supervisory duties as needed:

  • Selects, trains, motivates, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities, while providing optimal service to both internal and external customers.

  • Supervises activities in the assigned work unit to maximize the safety of patients, visitors, staff, and property

  • Ensures all shift paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Maintains a positive working relationship with staff and outside agencies and ensures issues or concerns are appropriately addressed, researched, and resolved.

  • Maintains knowledge and enforces applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact or govern the department. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.

  • Leads briefings for all officers to communicate pertinent information and distribute equipment to officers.

  • Responds to calls and disturbances in a timely manner to ensure actions taken are consistent with established policies and procedures.

  • Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, workflows, etc, and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency while supporting the overall goals and mission of the system and department.

  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the police and security field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, and actively participating in professional organizations. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.

  • Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.

  • Maintain Texas Peace Officer certification and state firearms qualification.

  • Provide assistance and other assigned duties to maintain a safe and secure environment.

  • Responds to violent physical encounters using the appropriate force necessary to achieve a lawful objective at the same time maintaining professionalism.

  • Actively participates in organization training showing proficiency in CPI, ALERRT and other training as required by the department or system.

Provides training for officers:

  • Orientates new employees

  • Attends assigned meetings and shares information

Provides manager with input for:

  • Employee selection

  • Progressive discipline

  • Employee evaluations
