Objective of the Job

The Product Manager will strategically and tactically manage the pricing, facility loading, and product development targets for their applicable products. This position requires knowledge and reporting related to market analysis, internal pricing and costing, as well as competitor extras and capabilities. Alignment with operational functional areas and sales to delivery of company objectives, including all growth initiatives and capability adjustments, is critical in this position. Ensuring on-time in-full order fulfillment for customers and optimizing facility loading volumes based on forecast to shipment plans is expected. This includes identifying and driving profitability through grade and size mix, based on key company and market indicators and contract performance analytics.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recommend spot pricing guidelines for applicable products, factor in order entry activity and insight from the commercial teams, trade publications and market indices.

  • Monitor and communicate import trends.

  • Manage and approve all pricing; forecast proceeds for financial projections; understand profitability cube and make recommendations on what is “good” vs. “bad” business.

  • Manage order bookings to optimize throughput and profitability; understand and adjust “tons” versus “production hours” based on mix.

  • Provide strategic focus on on-time delivery, particularly for key OEM accounts. For periods of robust demand this involves making recommendations of order entry guidelines by customer (based upon mutually agreed to criteria).

  • Recommend and manage inventory stocking opportunities to maximize service levels.

  • Manage all block-outs and promise date overrides; ensure sales teams are held accountable to maintain accuracy.

  • Communicate line availabilities, lead times, and cut-off dates.

  • Provide routine communication to the organization about market demand and bookings.

  • Understand the competitive landscape and where we have disadvantages and advantages.

  • Maintain up-to-date competitive extras and recommend adjustments if necessary.

  • Understand costs; particularly conversion costs and raw material costs, along with what runs well and what has challenges.

  • Recommend strategy regarding contractual business to provide an effective base load of business that supports our objectives and work with the sales managers to ensure contract business fits with this strategy.

  • Routinely evaluate and report out on contractual performance (actual bookings relative to contract volumes and contract price relative to spot pricing)

  • As new units come are added, effectively communicate changes in capabilities, challenges, and issues to ensure that the entire sales group understands and can communicate to customers.

  • Create training opportunities for sales groups when necessary; assist with related system changes needed.

  • Work closely with operations, technical services and metallurgists to understand and align on company objectives and expectations.

  • Attend production meetings and for strategic relationships with Operations personnel where needed.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Supply Chain, Finance, or Marketing

  • Experience working with TMS and ERP Systems; the ability to quickly learn new systems and software.

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with key functional groups; interact in a constructive manner.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, and implement process improvement plans.

  • Ability to meet/exceed customer expectations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Organized – keeps team on track and focused.

  • Efficient – focused on delivering insights which can prove valuable for multiple individuals.

  • Continuous learner – focused on maintaining insight into tools, reports and KPIs.

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

    This position is located at the Arkansas site. Fast paced, high intensity office atmosphere. Independent travel is expected. Timely after-hours and weekend support coverage is required.

    Must maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and be adept in both electronic and verbal communications.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position does not supervise others.
