United States Steel PGL Shift Lead, BRS in Arkansas

12567BRJob Description:Objective of the Job:

Responsible for assisting the PGL Day Supervisor in overseeing the successful direction, planning, and execution of all Pickle Galvanize Line operations and initiatives. This also includes all policies; procedures and all activities are carried out to support BRS goals and objectives at the Department Level.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Ensure Safety, Environmental, Quality requirements and “where applicable” ResponsibleSteel requirements are followed.

2) Ensure good housekeeping practices are carried out in job areas and grounds.

3) Effectively communicate with the other Operational Departments to support product quality, process control and improvements.

4) Assist team members with daily operations as needed and assist in the development of teammates while ensuring crew safety.

5) Assist with troubleshooting and repairs of unscheduled issues.

6) Communicates with maintenance group on shift to minimize unscheduled down time and facilitate repairs.

7) Communicates with Scheduling department about issues regarding production schedule.

8) Escalates information as directed to management team.

9) Observes safety, review incident reports and assist investigations as required.

10) Hold weekly Safety and informational meetings.

11) Responsible for meeting or exceeding performance metrics provided by BRS Management

12) Assists in the development and implementation of policies, standards and procedures for operational and mechanical work performed in the department.

13) Prepares and presents reports and findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.

14) Responsible for scheduling and approving work hours for direct reports.

15) Responds to operator call offs to ensure smooth operation of PGL.

16) Monitors and tracks PGL consumables and operational change parts to ensure sufficient stocks are available.

17) Monitors and controls costs associated with the PGL

Qualifications:

1) Quality, detail, and safety oriented; mechanically inclined and self-motivated.

2) Good insight into team dynamics with strong verbal communication skills and computer literate.

3) Ability to lead others.

4) High School diploma or equivalent; college degree a plus Strong understanding of Steel Mill operations with slitter experience.

5) Able to competently handle a fast-paced environment, with strong organizational, multi-tasking and prioritizing skills.

6) Demonstrates strong interpersonal communications skills, written and verbal.

7) Demonstrates strong work ethic and displays a high degree of professionalism.

8) Reliable Team Leader with good Communication Skills.

9) Highly Motivated, Self-Directed and willing to put in extra effort when needed.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

The environment is typical for steel mill production areas, with extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and dusty/greasy areas. Physically demanding work will be required in the production environment and the ability to routinely lift and move heavy objects during shift is required.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position is responsible to supervise and mentor direct reports in the PGL.
