Sauder Woodworking Co Maintenance Apprentice Technician in Archbold, Ohio

PURPOSE: Upon program completion (typically 24 months), the apprentice will possess the knowledge and skills needed to be a successful maintenance technician at Sauder.

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DUTIES: 

  • Completes all maintenance safety training.
  • Completes interactive maintenance training video classes.
  • Job shadows senior maintenance technicians.
  • Works closely with maintenance personnel to learn the proper use of hand tools, welder, torch, special tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Required to take one week of Sauder edge treatment and boring machinery maintenance training.
  • Works with the proactive maintenance team to clean, lube, inspect, perform alignments, and calibrations.
  • Learns the fundamentals and helps to implement and promote TPM (Total Predictive Maintenance).
  • Learns to rebuild machine components (glue pots, motors, boring blocks, gear boxes) to "like new" condition.
  • Becomes acquainted to hydraulic, pneumatic, & electrical systems on all equipment utilizing: electrical prints, multi-meters, PC notebooks, and programming software.
  • Learns to identify, repair, and replace worn parts such as, but not limited to: glue pots, heating elements, snip saws, and fine trim units.
  • Learns to utilize the CMMS to: create, maintain, and close work-orders and time cards; research and/or order parts; document work-order status; and/or other pertinent information.
  • At the completion of the first 12 months of the program, be willing to work in any area of maintenance on any shift or building as determined by the present need within the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school education; or GED Equivalent (Experience in skilled trades is a plus).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to learn technical skills of the maintenance trade.
  • Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude.
  • Self-motivated and positive attitude.
