nVent Engineering Manager, Controls & Electrical in Anoka, Minnesota

As we continue to expand our product portfolio and market presence, we are seeking a skilled Engineering Manager, Controls to join our team and support our next phase of growth.

What you will experience in this position:

You will lead a team of electrical, hardware, and firmware engineers in designing and implementing equipment controls for a wide variety of cooling solutions serving industrial and data center markets. You will coordinate with key engineering and product management leaders to drive resource alignment and allocation based on priority, ensuring that projects are completed within agreed-upon schedules. You will mentor and develop the team to expand individual capabilities, build out more capability, and drive design excellence in new technologies and next-gen approaches. This role includes being responsible for both embedded (microprocessor/microcontroller-based systems) and PLC-based designs, and coordinating with partner organizations and leaders across the segment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise engineering personnel and outside engineering vendors during all design and build phases of projects to ensure on-time delivery within budget.

  • Coordinate and balance workload using both internal and external resources to complete scheduled engineering activities as required.

  • Develop and motivate a staff that meets or exceeds performance expectations.

  • Coordinate and review project design decisions with staff engineers and management.

  • Monitor and control the budget, scheduling, and design of mechanical, controls, and software systems for customer-ordered and internal-use products.

  • Establish and maintain development schedules, test specifications, and protocols.

  • Supervise prototyping and testing processes.

  • Direct outside activities such as regulatory or other third-party testing.

  • Maintain customer contact through meetings and presentations.

  • Work closely with process development and tooling departments, supporting their activities with necessary engineering services.

  • Promote best practice to strengthen technical depth of staff, ensure responsive operational support, and enable process improvements.

  • Foster a collaborative team environment with open communication, identifying problems and establishing resolutions.

You have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Ideally 7+ years of relevant engineering experience with a focus on controls engineering.

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with a consistent track record of successfully leading and developing teams, ideally involving coordination with remotely located partners.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in electrical and electronics engineering and control systems integrated into product development as embedded controls platforms.

  • Experience with specifying, developing, maintaining, and managing the deployment of control platforms including panel designs, equipment selection, programming, HMI system integration, sequence of control development, programming, testing, and commissioning.

  • Knowledge in the development and layout of Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).

  • Experience with embedded systems (Microcontrollers) and PLC-based designs.

  • Experience in software and firmware development.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to coordinate team activities, negotiate requirements, and remaining flexible to accommodate changes in scope and direction.

  • Ability to travel regularly as required (up to 15%).
