Amazon Security Engineer - Hardware, US ADC Security in Annapolis Junction, Maryland

Description

The U.S. Amazon Dedicated Cloud Information Security team is looking for an experienced Security Engineer with a background in assessing and testing computer hardware. You will participate in security reviews of hardware components and integrative infrastructure, and build/enhance cloud architectures that deploy environments in support of security programs. This may include writing code/scripts and creating detection mechanisms.

As a Security Engineer you will be expected to provide technical guidance and recommendations that influence the business and direction of the project team. You will have the ability to directly work with customers to deliver security outcomes that will have a broad and lasting impact. You will be counted on to apply high judgment and recommendations for engineering standards on both hardware and software systems.

This is a hands-on position where your daily activities will range from facilitating security reviews, performing threat modeling, configuring software and hardware test environments, guiding/monitoring internal and external test personnel, addressing technical questions around hardware implementations for cryptography, access, and threat mitigations. To succeed in this role, you will deliver on-time results based in your deep technical expertise that delight your customers.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.

Key job responsibilities

Providing security engineering solutions and support during customer-facing engagements, proactively addressing customer requirements while reducing risks.

Working alongside a team of Security Engineers to assess and reduce risk while delivering security outcomes for customers. Enhancing a culture that holds a high quality security bar when building automated cloud infrastructure.

Translating functional and technical requirements for hardware and software systems into detailed architecture and design.

Providing recommendations and implementing solutions to hardware related challenges.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in computer hardware and networking.

  • 1+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, Rust experience.

  • 1+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.

  • Experience designing, building, and deploying complex and scalable software and hardware solutions in production.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent work experience.

  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt messaging technical, and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience setting up hardware environment for security evaluations - configuring data center hardware components, setting up and configuring power systems, configuration of network equipment and site-to-site inter-connectivity.

  • Experience with secure application development - static application security testing, dynamic application security testing, vulnerability scanning and mitigation.

  • An understanding of software development and deployment practices - feature branch management strategies, continuous integration, continuous delivery, software observability, and metering.

  • Experience with AWS services.

  • Experience in vulnerability management or security operations.

  • Familiarity with hardware interfaces: PCIe, JTAG, UART, I2C, SPI.

  • Familiarity with software system interfaces: gRPC, REST.

  • Understanding of High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and Failover.
