Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, compassionate individual to join our growing team as a Pharmacy Technician in the Kellogg Eye Center Pharmacy! The Kellogg Eye Center Pharmacy features community pharmacy, OR pharmacy, and sterile compounding functions, including cleanrooms for both hazardous and non-hazardous medication compounding. This position will work in collaboration with a team of dedicated pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, providers, nurses, and other interdisciplinary partners to provide comprehensive care to patients of the Kellogg Eye Center.

Responsibilities*

Pharmacy Technician, Kellogg Eye Center job duties may include:

  • Gathering prescription insurance coverage information

  • Performing prescription order entry and fulfillment

  • Conducting basic metric conversions and calculations

  • Performing sterile compounding in the hazardous and non-hazardous cleanrooms

  • Greeting patients and answering phones

  • Assisting with the resolution of medication access barriers

  • Collaborating with nursing, social work, providers, pharmacists, and others to optimize patient care

  • Assisting with problem solving and process improvements within the pharmacy

  • Delivering medications as needed to surgical rooms

  • Correctly distributing and accounting for controlled substance usage

  • Assisting the Pharmacist with auditing-controlled substance utilization

  • Stocking medications shelves, managing inventory dating, returning excess stock to inventory

  • Filling Pyxis automated dispensing cabinets

  • Assisting with training of staff

  • Other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor to facilitate safe and efficient patient care

Required Qualifications*

Pharmacy Technician Associate:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.

  • Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability.

Pharmacy Technician Intermediate:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

  • One or more years of relevant pharmacy practice or equivalent experience is necessary.

  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.

  • Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability.

Pharmacy Technician Senior:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

  • Two or more years of relevant pharmacy practice or equivalent experience is necessary.

  • Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.

  • Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability

Desired Qualifications*

At least one year technician experience is highly desirable. Basic algebra and previous experience with sterile compounding also highly desired.

Licensure & Certification

?The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a Technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. UMHS Pharmacy Department provides coaching and additional information to support Technicians to become certified and licensed.

Newly hired pharmacy technicians must obtain a valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their hire date. This can include a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License or a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License. If a technician obtains a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their date of hire, they must obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License within 1 year of hire date or before the Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License expires, whichever is sooner, to maintain employment. In addition, all pharmacy technicians must obtain PTCB certification within 6 months of hire date or in time to obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License, whichever is sooner, and they must maintain their PTCB certification throughout the duration of employment at UMHS as a Pharmacy Technician.?
