Summary

Information and Technology Services (ITS) is looking for a Inside Plant Project Engineer to join the ITS Infrastructure team with in ITS.

You will manage the completion of assigned complex or long-term engineering projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines utilizing expert technical proficiency in IT Infrastructure technologies. Contribute to support and analysis work that has a broad impact on our organization. Collaborate with team members and provide consultation to other technical teams to design, implement, and improve IT Infrastructure systems. Engage in project implementation and problem resolution, including troubleshooting of IT Infrastructure, installation and upgrades of products and systems, ensuring integrity and appropriate use of technologies. Participate in the strategic planning and setting of technical direction for the department. You will report to the Assistant Director of ITS Infrastructure Facilities.

Responsibilities*

  • Lead engineers, designers, construction managers, and customers through the ISP (Inside Plant) phases of telecommunications construction projects. Create the design, bill-of-material, project costs, drawings, documentation, and configuration specifications for ISP Facility implementation.

  • Help develop implementation plans and timelines, provide status reports, and exchange relevant information with management and technical teams. Notifies co-workers and management of potential issues to implement resolutions. Provide project budget estimates.

  • Approve project outcomes including contractor work; test results; and payment for work. May develop RFPs (requests for proposal), reviews bid and consults on bidder selection.

  • Collaborate with and gather technical requirements with teams. In collaboration with team members, designates ISP fiber and copper assignments, ISP IT Infrastructure design requirements (including manhole and duct requirements), Building Entrance penetrations, installation of ISP facilities into the BDF (Building Distribution Frame), splicing, termination, and testing of ISP facilities using established guidelines and customer requirements.

  • Prepare and publish detailed documents for ISP facilities including required routes, circuit/pair assignments, completed as-built documentation, and associated CAD details.

  • Perform analysis of IT Infrastructure facility concerns by investigating and resolving problems, poor performance, and error conditions due to field requirements, changes in design, or other obstacles, and works with impacted departments to resolve issues.

Required Qualifications*

  • Associate degree in electrical engineering, or a related field or equivalent combination of telecommunication/IT Infrastructure education, certification and experience

  • Current BICSI RCDD Certification

  • Minimum of four years of experience in a related role requiring confidentiality, timeliness, customer service, organization, prioritization, troubleshooting, and working independently to assist customers.

  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience in telecommunications system design, IT Infrastructure system infrastructure on utilized technology.

  • Experience designing twisted pair, fiber optic, coaxial cable systems as related to Inside Plant Facilities, customer premise, and structured cabling systems.

  • Demonstrated experience determining project objectives and requirements, anticipating and solving problems, and developing standards.

  • Knowledge of TIA/EIA (Telecommunication Industry Association/Electronic Industries Alliance) standards.

  • Experience leading project teams to meet customer expectations.

  • You will work from the office at least 4 days a week.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field. 6-10 years of experience in structured cabling engineering and design.

  • BICSI RTPM or OSP Certification in addition to RCDD Certification.

  • Experience with large engineering and construction projects to include responsibility for scheduling and budget.
