Barr Engineering Co Gas Pipeline Engineer Mid Level Hybrid in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Job Description:

Summary: The person in this position will manage and perform engineering tasks for gas and oil pipeline projects that typically include station upgrades, relocation and protection of existing pipelines, routing of proposed pipelines, pipe sizing, documents, and trenchless construction design. Qualified individuals will have strong engineering design experience related to pipeline systems engineering, system integrity, and construction or experience related to piping in the natural gas, liquefied natural gas, and oil sectors. This person will help develop our presence and assist with establishing our capabilities related to natural gas pipelines. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments.

Project responsibilities will include:

Preparing detailed engineering design of gas, hazardous liquids, slurry, and other pipeline systems projects including design of trenchless crossings (Bore, Microtunnel, HDD)

Preparing detailed engineering of pipeline facilities including regulation and meter runs, pig launchers, interconnects, relief systems, measurement systems, compressor station piping systems, gas conditioning systems, distribution system design, etc.

Participating in field/site walks to coordinate field investigation work for surveys, utility investigations, and cathodic protection in support of the pipeline design effort

Preparing project funding documents such as cost estimates, equipment bid summaries, and authorization requests

Managing small to mid-size projects and teams up to $25 million in total installed cost

Preparing proposals in response to client RFPs

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical or civil engineering with coursework related to the job responsibilities

A minimum of 8 years of experience in the gas pipeline sector including project engineering and design or operating company experience

Experience in engineering/specification of pipeline systems

Knowledge of gas codes and regulations, including 49 CFR Part 192, B31.8, and API 1104

Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain PE certification within one year

Familiarity with CAD and Microsoft Office software

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Willingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative

Demonstrated project organization and management skills

Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs

Acceptable driving record

Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

10+ years of relevant work experience

Knowledge of hazardous liquids codes and regulations including 49 CFR part 192, B31.4

Experience working in consulting engineering

Strong relationships with clients and the ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain a high level of client service

Proven project management experience

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is/can be based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah, Ann Arbor, Michigan or Duluth, Minnesota offices.

NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants will be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of clients.
