POSITION SUMMARY

Performs statistical and related business intelligence analyses to inform the design and assessment of health care quality and safety; develops scheduled, updated analyses for a production system of reports; creates datasets for high-level statistical analyses as part of innovative team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Proficient in the use of SAS and SQL software to create datasets for analysis from multiple, primary sources, conducts analyses and creates reports; Programming skills should be sufficient for modular programming to support recurring production-level datasets; Analytical skills should be sufficiently developed for forecasting, predictive modeling and longitudinal cohort analyses.

  • Write SQL queries for data manipulation, sorting, summarizing and reporting.

  • Reviews, analyzes and modifies programming systems including coding, testing, debugging and documenting programs.

  • Uses standard macros/code to comply with department standards.

  • Checks for validity and reproducibility of quality/safety measures when indicated from multiple data sources.

  • Ensures completeness and accuracy of reports.

  • Uses additional reporting tools such as Business Objects, Excel, Tableau etc. as needed.

  • Maintains routine reporting and data load processes.

Able to produce graphical and other visual displays of data to guide the decision-maker.

  • Collaborates with medical and clinical staff leadership and colleagues to determine information needs and to understand requirements for application and/or reports.

Leads team projects and provides reporting support for web applications.

  • Assists staff with understanding of healthcare data and assists in the training of new staff members.

  • Provides programming and analytical expertise on team projects.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors Degree, Masters preferred. Minimum of 3 years experience in business intelligence analyses pertaining to at least one of the following: clinical, financial, operations, biostatistics, epidemiology, clinical research or industrial engineering

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficient in SAS and SQL, Base SAS, SAS STAT, SAS QC, SAS Graph, ODS, macro programming

  • Understanding of healthcare data – inpatient, outpatient or managed care (preferred)

  • Ability to work on multiple, concurrent projects, perform a variety of tasks

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to quickly adapt to and handle changing priorities

  • Ability to anticipate customer needs and questions.
