Job Description:

Job Title: Maintenance Technician I – 2nd Shift

Location: Manufacturing

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function:

The Maintenance technician’s responsibilities include maintaining production machinery in a timely and efficient manner also assisting in maintaining the building, grounds.

Working Relationships:

Accountable and Reports to: Maintenance Manager. Daily contact with Production Managers and production employees.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Machine setup, establish ongoing, and monitor preventive maintenance programs at the Hy-Vee Commissary.

  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and maintain machinery and equipment.

  • Solid knowledge of food manufacturing equipment, including processing and packaging lines a plus

  • Perform a variety of building maintenance including carpentry functions

  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service

  • Analyzes significant equipment failures to determine root cause of failures.

  • Identify areas to improve equipment performance and reliability.

  • Assists with other maintenance department personnel as needed.

  • Ensure compliance to plant policies and Federal and State regulations including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and SQF standards.

  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time. Weekends when needed.

Competencies

  • Must have the ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.

  • Must perform very heavy work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Must pass a pre- employment physical and drug screen.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: physical work including walking, stooping, bending, lifting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, fingering, grasping, climbing, reaching, balancing, pushing, and pulling.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Self-motivated and self-directed.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills.

  • Ability to meet deadlines with limited supervision.

Working Conditions:

  • The duties of this position are performed mostly in the production area, which is wet and refrigerated (@38 degrees).

  • Work around loud equipment.

  • Frequent deadlines exist while handling multiple tasks.

  • Daily contact with employees, technicians and salespersons.

  • Ability to climb, bend, lift and work in areas of limited mobility.

Equipment/Programs used to Perform Job

Trade school training or equivalent experience required. Courses in electrical maintenance or apprenticeships required. Must provide own standard and metric hand tools used for electrical maintenance and repair. Involves frequent use of diagnostic equipment. Forklift, and use of phone. Computer knowledge is helpful to work with RTA software for work orders, parts, and labor.

Minimum Education/Experience Required to Perform Job

Must have two years of experience or educational background. Must be 18 years of age or older to apply.

Schedule Availability

Available to work second shift, must be available to rotate weekends.
