Our team supports a combined fleet of ships sailing to Alaska each summer, operating lodges and hotels, luxury motor coaches and the largest domed rail cars in the world. We’re looking for an experienced Manager, Human Resources. This position will be responsible for being a leader of a team that champions change, proactively removes roadblocks and builds diverse and inclusive talent strategies to deliver on our guest service priorities while enhancing the employee experience. You’ll lead a team of HR Assistants that are committed to supporting teams and leaders to build a team that is passionate about exceeding guests’ expectations and a place where teams love to work. As the Leader of HR, most of your time is divided supporting your locations. Your time is spent with providing direction to your HR Assistants to complete day to day tasks, payroll timekeeping and assisting team members with everyday questions, training and being the gate keeper of culture. Also, will be a consultant to all level leaders at all locations, provide guidance and seeing first-hand how you can continuously propel the business forward.

Here’s a summary of what Holland America Line and Princess is looking for in its Manager, Human Resources. Is this you?

Responsibilities

Recruit and staff and off-board of seasonal team members to successfully operate the season:

  • Administrator of the seasonal applicant tracking system (ATS)

  • Review and maintain up to date hiring needs for the locations.

  • Assist in conducting interviews and selecting the best candidates for the position.

  • Maintaining proper internal notes, tags and comments properly defined for each season.

Onboarding & Training:

  • Oversee onboarding process of new hires, and all background checks and documents submitted accurately and timely.

  • Work and Travel Student team members successfully complete and provide the require documentation.

  • Assist new hires with travel assistance program.

  • Conduct Orientation and Compliance Training presentations

  • Completed Training requirements keyed in timely.

Supporting business leaders through HR processes:

  • Coaching and consulting location’s leaders to develop and performance manage their team members.

  • Provides feedback and assists in reviewing all performance management documents.

  • Enforcing all policies and procedures.

  • Assist business leaders in processing transfers, promotions, pay rate changes and/or terminations.

  • Employee data and employment info is accurate and updated at all times.

  • Assists with workers compensation and employee illness and injury reports.

  • Responsible for proper requirements met for Minors.

Location’s administrator of payroll system and time keeping:

  • All timesheets are accurate and processed timely for payout.

  • Ensure use of proper pay codes and departments charged correctly.

  • Trains and provides guidance to Seasonal Admin users.

  • Assists employees with pay and/or timesheet inquiries.

  • W-4 documents accurately submitted for seasonal team members.

  • Educates and encourage team members in direct deposit or pay card options.

  • Liaison partner with 3rd party bank to assist in account set up.

Oversees the onsite employee housing community:

  • Oversees the employee housing team.

  • Processes the room assignments for all seasonal employees.

  • Ensures room check in and check outs are properly executed.

  • Assists in random room inspections.

  • All off stage employee spaces are welcoming and display required labor law and compliance posters.

Guide operations in employee relations:

  • Conduct thorough investigations as needed and in a timely matter.

  • Take partner with Sr. Manager, Human Resources when need for high-risk concerns.

  • Promotes and inclusive and harassment free environment demonstrating integrity, fairness, and professionalism in all business dealings.

  • Identify ER trends and take appropriate action to reeducate and/or retrain on policies.

  • Maintain HR procedures that comply with labor regulations.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to HR practices, such as EEO, FMLA, and ADA.

  • Reviews and takes partners with any ADA and/or reasonable accommodation request.

Administers the Rewards & Incentives program:

  • Oversees, submits end of season bonuses, incentives and rewards are accurately administered for payout.

  • Manages and submits Employee Space Available Request for seasonal team members who successfully complete their employment agreement.

  • This position will lead recruiting, staffing and onboarding procedures.

  • This position will be a supportive HR Manager to all leaders in HR process.

  • Be a champion for the culture essentials.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in human resources or related field from an accredited university/college or equivalent experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and PHR, SPHR or equivalent preferred

  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in HR in progressively more responsible roles in hotel or related industry.

  • Experience creating and managing HR strategies and goals; delivering results through your team.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.

  • Experience in recruiting, selecting and talent management of hourly team members and leaders.

  • Ability to support business leaders; coaching and consulting with them in growing the business and selecting and developing their teams.

  • Ability to influence across levels and partners (e.g. hourly team members, supervisors and managers).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Strong business acumen.

  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity.

  • Strong cognitive skills, including problem analysis, decision making, financial and quantitative analysis.

  • Learn and adapt to current technology needs.

  • Manage conflict, lead, and hold others accountable.

  • Relate well with and interact with all levels of the organization.

  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.

  • The qualified candidate must be based in SE Alaska: Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan

  • Travel expectation is approximately 25-50% to properties during in season, dependent on business needs.
