ICE SERVICES, INC. Industrial Painting, Coating and Sandblasting Technician in Anchorage, Alaska

Wage: DOE

Hours per day: 12.00

Rotation: 3x3 or as assigned

Purpose of Position:

The Industrial Painting, Coating and Sandblasting Technician is responsible for preparation of surface to NACE Standards and applying various types of industrial coatings and paints to meet specifications.

Educational Requirements:

High school diploma or G.E.D

Experience and Background:

  • Prior tank and vessel cleaning experience is preferred.
  • Spray foam and polyuria experience preferred.
  • Blasting and coating experience to include blasting equipment, airless and conventional sprays is preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select mix and apply.
  • Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques.
  • Aptitude in using appropriate tools.
  • Good basic math skills.
  • Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders, etc.
  • Conscientious with great attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills, ability to speak, read and write English.
  • Successful completion of an apprenticeship preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Greater Prudhoe Bay Oilfield preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment.
  • Shovels or pours abrasives, like sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.
  • Masks specified areas of object to protect from abrading action.
  • Loads parts on racks in enclosed rooms, into tumbling barrels, or into cabinets.
  • Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel.
  • Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive-laden compressed air, gas, or liquid over surface of parts.
  • May examine finished parts to make sure conformance to specifications.
  • Initiate problem solving and perform repairs on any coating equipment, in a timely manner.
  • Apply protective coatings to interior/exterior surfaces of tanks and vessels, FBE coatings on piping and road crossings, polyurea and/or polyurethane to roofs and tank exterior.
  • Ability to read product specifications and apply protective coatings to meet specifications
  • Construct minor scaffolding or platforms in accordance with federal regulations

Certificates, Licenses, or other Requirements:

  • Drivers license and clean driving record required.
  • North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) Card- preferred, not required
  • Must pass a pre-hire drug test, breath alcohol test, occupational fit for duty test, computer-based testing and background check.
  • Must be able to work 12 hours per day, as required.
  • Commitment to proactive, positive, and sustainable HSE culture.
  • Current Alaska Hazardous Paint Card is required, or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • SSPC or NACE certification is preferred
