Job Description

WORK SCHEDULE

40 hours per week and occasional overtime.

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the President, the Director of Operations will have oversight of the Lands Management Department, Special Projects, Spruce Islands Fuels along with State and Federal Grants Management. The Director of Operations is also responsible for management of the day-to-day operations of ONC and will provide strategic direction and leadership to the operations team, ensuring alignment with the corporation's mission, vision, and values. The Director of Operations will build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including tribal leaders, community members, government agencies, and corporate partners. The successful candidate in this role will communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, provide regular updates on operational performance, challenges, and opportunities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team, foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability while maximizing responsible economic development.
  • Develops relationships with other leaders in the state and Kodiak Archipelago to improve the lives of ONC shareholders.
  • Works with the ONC Lands Manager to protect ONC lands and promote healthy communities.
  • Project Management and oversite of rural community capital improvement projects.
  • Working knowledge of 501c3 non- profit management.
  • Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation to optimize efficiency.
  • Works with the VP of Communications, to ensure all corporate communications and programs are aligned with the ONC mission statement.
  • Oversees the legislative, fisheries and land's departments mission to ensure the corporation is represented uniformly at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Develops written comments and testimony on regulatory and legislative issues.
  • Develops grant opportunities from procurement through reporting and execution.
  • Liaison with KONCOR and Timber Operations.
  • Liaison with Ouzinkie Tribal Council and City of Ouzinkie.
  • Liaison with Spruce Island Development Corporation (SIDCO) a 501c3 non-profit organization.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, political science, or a related field is preferred. In lieu of degree, 10 years of experience in a supervisory operations role is required.
  • Construction experience with specific experience handling the Village of Ouzinkie building efforts, working with the Village of Ouzinkie contractors and subcontractors, and have a good working relationship with the city of Ouzinkie for construction efforts.
  • Ability to communicate persuasively and effectively to executive level members, in writing, in PowerPoint and verbally in meetings.
  • Ability to build relationships and follow projects from inception to completion.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
  • Strong professional and interpersonal skills to maintain relationships with political representatives and outside stakeholder organizations.
  • Preference given to ONC shareholders and descendants.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS

  • PMP Certification or Project Management Equivalent
  • Experience in corporate for-profit setting managing and creating strategy.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in written format.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational s ills including that needed to accurately and orderly file documents.
  • Good analytical and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality restrictions, also quality and safety standards.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to work with the attitude of helpfulness, including within a team environment.
  • Ability to work with limited on-site supervision, self-motivated.
  • Ability to create and edit simple documents for inter-office communications, including completion of forms.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct supervision over Natural Resources Manager, Special Projects Manager, Spruce Island Fuels and a remote office staff. Responsible for ONC operations.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

Must have or be able to attain a valid state driver's license and be insurable on the company's automobile insurance policy.

Driving, with or without accommodation, may be required when traveling and/or short occasional amounts of local driving. The expected driving time is between 25-40%.
