Title: Construction Estimator

Salary Range: $50,000-$80,000

Summary:

Are you experienced in the accurate preparation of full-cost estimates? Do you have experience leading a team? Do you enjoy working with an amazing group of talented team members? If you answered yes, then you should already be applying! The Construction Estimator is responsible for accurate and timely preparation of full-cost estimates for projects and tenders. CSL Group is looking for someone who will proactively prepare and maintain a list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, and establish unit costs, labor rates, productivity factors, and location impacts. This individual's accuracy is critical to the profitability of the business.

Job Duties:

  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate.

  • Implement and maintain CSL Group’s systems and procedures in relation to construction estimating and tendering

  • Contact sub-trades and material suppliers regarding pricing of materials, supplies, and services

  • Keep a record of addenda, and review the addenda scope to determine changes to the original tender scope

  • Send addenda to suppliers and sub-contractors as they are received and as applicable to each sub-trade

  • Conduct quantity take-offs using estimating software (Planswift) for all areas of the estimate and transcribe measured quantities into CSL’s pricing template.

  • Assist in the selection and maintenance of sub-contractors within CSL Group’s Estimating Database

  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, sub-contractors and suppliers, while actively seeking out new quality vendors to be added to the sub-contractor database.

  • Attend pre-bid meetings on site to determine bid size, scope, and complexity

  • Assist in the delivery of tenders and attending bid openings

  • Review all unusual pricing requests with the senior estimator

  • Monitor and record pricing trends for bids submitted in various areas and throughout different times of the year

  • Liaise with the client’s project manager/contract administrator to clarify any questions regarding contractor/sub-contractor scope of work

  • Prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of full cost estimates on conceptual, design-build or general tender work.

  • Prepare materials, labor and equipment cost estimations necessary to successfully carry out a construction project according to proposals, plans, estimates,

  • and specifications.

  • Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • ​ 2+ years of construction estimating in the field

  • Degree or diploma in Engineering or Building and Construction Sciences is preferred.

  • Technical knowledge of modern construction, site-work and landscape practices - past field experience preferred.

  • Understanding of construction contract documents.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, including Excel, Word, and Project.

  • Previous estimating software knowledge is an asset.

  • Ability to work as a team player, manage multiple priorities, and work under pressure.

  • Ability to independently prioritize multiple tasks in a logical order of importance.

  • Ability to travel if required.
