The Role :

In this role you will be managing relationships between clients in the Benelux, Nordics and Baltics regions and S&P Global Commodity Insights. You will be responsible for ensuring a continuation of these relationships, driving net sales and growth, structuring multi-year agreements, and delivering customer value by building a sound enterprise strategy and solution. Consultative sales is at the heart of this role, with a key focus on client centricity.

The role of the Business Development Manager requires you to work with different teams internally, whether it is the commodity specialists’ team, client services, client development managers, product managers or any other team. The Business Development Manager’s responsibility is to make sure that the client derives the most value from S&P Global’s services. You will work together with the different teams and your direct colleagues to discuss strategy and value proposition: through client meetings, peer analysis research, and internal brainstorming, all resulting in the best plan of approach.

Business Development Managers are responsible for maintaining a strong relationship with the customers, building net new revenue and mitigating risks through structuring commercial contracts with the client. They are critical to the growth of the business.

The Career Opportunity :

This role is a perfect platform to start at S&P Global Commodity Insights. You will work closely with a wide range of internal stakeholders including other commercial managers, specialists, development managers, and other departments including the content team, marketing team, and analysts. With regards to your clients, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of buyer profiles across sectors such as producers, pharmaceutical companies, government departments, and FMCGs. The products and services in scope may range from traditional energy services, new energy, chemicals, agribusiness, metals, and more.

Your Skills :

You will have experience with consultative selling, have strong organisational skills, and have excellent verbal and written communication with a drive to succeed. Strong internal and external stakeholder management is an important ingredient for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Consultative Sales and Negotiations, Increased Customer Engagement

  • Provide input for the creation and execution of strategic direction within the set territory.

  • Meets and exceeds revenue quota through the management and execution of the sales process.

  • Employs consultative sales techniques to manage renewals, generate new opportunities and drive growth.

  • Increase sales of new and non-benchmark services to new and existing users, divisions and locations.

  • Retention of existing business.

  • Establishes and maintains a good rapport with senior contacts across key divisions and regions, conducting extensive customer-facing presentations and new product development discussions.

Strategy and Planning

  • Develops and regularly updates customer-centric account sales plan that is established in collaboration with customer and key stakeholders to ensure alignment with client needs and Commodity Insights’ strategy.

  • Leverages the knowledge built on clients and input provided from key stakeholders from other functions.

  • Is able to work across functions and collaborate so as to provide utmost value to customer and draw best results for Commodity Insights.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally 3-5 years experience maintaining total sales at or above quota

  • Degree preferred, proven sales experience, preferably in commodity or financial information provider role

  • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated.

  • Consultative sales and negotiation skills experience with high integrity.

  • A hunter adept at all phases of the selling cycle from need creation, proposal preparation, negotiation to deal closure

  • Excellent communication and presentation (verbal/ written) skills, with a strong ability of demonstrating value

  • Very strong planning and organizational skills, able to prioritize

  • Preferable experience with systems (SalesForce, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
