Description

Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center is currently looking for a full time Pediatric Occupational Therapist for a school located in the Amherst area. This position may be a 12 month or 10 month position and will be working with general education elementary age students.

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing OT services to children of BHSC whose ability to function is impaired by congenital or developmental disability, physical illness or injury, through examinations, evaluations, diagnosis, prognosis and interventions for the highest functional outcomes.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the evaluation of therapy needs. Participate in the creation of the treatment plan, revising as necessary. Perform occupational therapy procedures as ordered by physician or documented on IEP. Communicate with OT/PT Manager as appropriate to evaluate patient needs.

  • Collaborate with other team members or those individuals designated by the agency (e.g. family members, teachers, speech-language pathologists, consumers, etc.) to facilitate comprehensive treatment.

  • Serve as a supervisor and mentor to student OTs.

  • Participate in the delivery of in-service education programs Participate in formal staff training and formalized in-service training as appropriate.

  • Record on patient charts all appropriate occupational therapy evaluations, progress notes, consultations and discharge summary information. Submit all notes, evaluations and required forms within agency guidelines. Maintain such records and prepared such reports as requested by the agency.

  • Make recommendations for purchases of specialized program materials, supplies and adaptive equipment.

  • Any other duties as requested by your supervisor.

Education (Minimum Degree Required):

Masters in Occupational therapy curriculum accredited jointly by the council of medical education of the American Medical Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association

Required License:

New York State Licensed and Registered as an Occupational Therapist

Physical Requirements

  • Physical actions may include, but are not limited to; standing, sitting, bending, lifting, kneeling, squatting, reaching, printing, crawling, running, twisting & turning.

  • Vision, speech, tactical and hearing senses adequate to perform job requirements.

  • Frequent sitting/ standing and when appropriate, floor sitting with pediatric patients.
