Reports to: Director of Event Services

We provide residential undergraduate education to nearly 700 students. Each department at Hampshire College contributes to the collaborative culture of the organization and plays an important role in the success of the College. The event services and summer programs office staff are event professionals who are committed to working with the Hampshire community, external organizations, and private individuals to plan events and programs on the campus of Hampshire College. Our staff provides organizational and logistical services that are timely, professional, flexible, and customer-driven. As part of the event services and summer programs team, you will be instrumental in the department achieving its mission and goals!

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The bartender prepares and serves beverages to guests in the bar area in a safe, friendly, courteous and timely manner.

As a member of event services & summer programs, this position is essential to student, employee and community service and experience. The incumbent must feel comfortable working in an often fast-paced organizational framework with shifting and evolving responsibilities. This position collaborates with other event services & summer programs staff, and a variety of other college offices to meet the department goals, and further the mission of the department and the College. This position participates as a committed member of the event services & summer programs team in college and division committee work, projects, meetings, events, and overall community development. Availability to work nights and weekends is required.

Required SKILLS:

  • TIPS Certified;

  • Ability to count money and give change;

  • Experience in a hospitality or food and beverage position;

  • Have extensive knowledge of common drinks, which they use to recommend drinks to customers, prepare cocktails, pour beers and properly decant wines;

  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism;

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds;

  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion;

  • Ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • No formal education required

  • One year of job-related experience required

  • Technical licenses or certifications

Alternatives to formal education and paid work experience may be considered as equivalent qualifications to include military service/training, volunteering, activism, and other non-traditional programs and experiences related to the position.
