Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, performs routine and intensive respiratory care treatment and diagnostic testing. Manages routine and critical care equipment, provides patient education and care planning, and assists with discharge planning for patient neonatal through geriatric. Key member of critical care response teams, include Code Blue, Rapid Response Team (ACT team), Trauma Alert, and Cardiac Alert. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care.

Required Qualifications

  • Must hold a Respiratory Care Practitioner license from the Iowa Department of Public Health OR be a second-year student in a registry-level program in good standing.

  • Must pass certification level exams offered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) OR be a second-year student in a registry-level program in good standing.

  • If hired after January 1, 2016, must pass registry level exams offered by the NBRC within 12 months of employment to advance into the Registered Respiratory Therapist role OR be a second-year student in a registry-level program in good standing.

  • Must obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within six months of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
