Stellar Technology CNC Setup Operator in Amehrst, New York

Amherst. Stellar Technology. CNC Setup Operator. $22 - $28/hour. 2nd Shift.

CNC Setup Operator will utilize strong technical skills to setup and operate CNC machines as required to produce component parts that meet specifications. The Setup Operator is to demonstrate safe work practices at all times and to identify areas of potential concern to management. Setup Operators are also required to participate in team activities and to provide ideas to support continuous improvement activities within their work team or cell.

This position is for 2nd shift hours (3:30 PM - 12:00 AM)

Job Responsibilities: * Proficiently setup and operate CNC lathe and or mill to machine components to customer requirements by performing all machine set-ups, tool changes and offsets as required * Perform operations such as turning, boring, milling, contouring, facing, and threading on castings, forgings, and bar stock * Suggest and participate in the implementation of process improvements, setup reduction initiatives and scrap reduction activities * Perform all first piece and in-process inspection as required using calipers, micrometers, plug gauges and ring gauges or other necessary inspection equipment * Prepare programs and perform minor to intermediate adjustments to program inputs including minor tool changes and offsets to ensure product specifications are met * Assist in the development and maintenance of work instructions and process sheets ensuring paperwork is organized, detailed and current * Complete necessary paperwork and documentation to ensure quality conformance and the proper movement and control of product as well as all quality related inspection requirements * Works safely and actively participates in all plant safety directives while adhering to all safety guidelines and procedures * Participates in team activities including LEAN projects and activities and other continuous improvement activities * Setup and operation of multiple machines within the Machine Shop

Competencies Required: * Ability to learn and apply advanced technical concepts * Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems with limited information * Flexible with work and job assignments and willing to perform any function as needed * Must be dependable and available to work overtime when required * Understands and demonstrates comprehension of drawings, blueprints and Manufacturing work instructions

Work Experience Required

CNC Setup Operator I * Minimum 3 years of CNC Setup operation with technical training from an accredited institution for Machining and CNC Operation * May substitute 5-7 years of experience in CNC Setup Operation for technical training * Basic computer skills including Microsoft Windows

CNC Setup Operator II * Minimum 5 years of CNC Setup operating with technical training from an accredited institution for Machining and CNC Operation * Basic to advanced computer skills including Microsoft Windows

CNC Setup Operator III * Minimum 10 years of CNC Setup operation with technical training from an accredited institution for Machining and CNC Operation * Basic to advanced computer skills including Microsoft Windows

Preferred * Prior experience with CNC Setup Operation with metals in tight tolerance or aerospace specification * Experience programming and operating using Fanuc controls * Experience using SAP or a similar ERP production control software * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications * Familiarity with sensing systems technologies and aerospace product specs * Formal trades training
