County of Blair Parole and Probation Officer in Altoona, Pennsylvania

Multiple openings exist for parole and probation officer in both the Hollidaysburg, PA, and Altoona, PA, locations of Adult Parole and Probation. Our hires will supervise a caseload of adult offenders; enforce orders of the court and conditions of supervision; meet with offenders in the office and field; investigate complaints about offenders promptly; help offenders adjust to life in the community; prevent future criminal acts and technical violations; conduct investigations, prepare social and legal case histories, pre-sentence investigations, and pre-release/parole plans as required; conduct counseling interviews with assigned offenders; suggest constructive method(s) for addressing such problems; conduct drug and alcohol testing; refer offenders to appropriate agencies for treatment and other services; review inmate initial adjustment and/or behavior with prison authorities; develop professional relationships with law enforcement agencies, human services providers, and other staff; and perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualified applicants will possess a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, criminology, social work, sociology, psychology, or related field; valid Pennsylvania driver's license with a record that will not prohibit employment; self-motivation; flexibility to adapt to unexpected situations; capacity to create a sense of purpose; capacity to anticipate and respond to difficult or dangerous situations; strong customer service orientation with the ability to build rapport and work cooperatively with others; excellent written and oral communications skills; courteous, patient, and professional demeanor; proficient organizational abilities and attention to detail; experience maintaining confidentiality; and computer literacy.

Benefits
