Job Description

Title: Substitute Teacher

Qualifications:

  • Meets State Department of Education requirements for substitute teachers.

  • Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

    Reports to: Building Principal

    Job Goal: To enable each child to pursue education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher as part of an education organization committed to engaging all students in learning a challenging curriculum delivered through quality instruction.

    Performance Responsibilities:

  • Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom.

  • Teach the lessons outlined as prepared by the absent teacher.

  • Consult with the building principal before initiating any teaching or other procedure not specified.

  • Verify, before leaving the building, with the principal or his/her designee if you will or will not be required on the following teaching day.

  • Follow all policies, rules and procedures to which teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.

  • Other duties as assigned when need arises.

    Terms of Employment:

    1. Daily salary as set by Board of Education.

    2. After five consecutive days of substituting for the same teacher, the pay is figured on the per diem of the Base Pay, Step 1 of the current negotiated salary schedule.
