What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. About the Senior Process Safety Engineer Position

As the Senior Process Safety Engineer, you will partner with Colonial projects teams to consult, develop, and execute projects and growth initiatives in accordance with Colonial and industry requirements. The Senior Process Safety Engineer is a subject matter expert on the Company’s Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management (RMP) programs. The engineer provides technical and functional support to internal customers, including Operations, Commercial Affairs, Optimization, Efficiency, and Innovation (OE&I), and Projects. In this role, you will collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of operational safety programs including OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, Management of Change (MOC), Incident Investigation, Analysis, Lessons Learned (IA), and Safety Management System (SMS) implementation. This role is also responsible for process oversight by conducting process hazard analyses (PHAs). The Process Safety Engineer will foster trusting and cooperative relationships by educating, motivating, and influencing individuals to value and take personal ownership of operational safety.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholder in Optimization Efficiency & Innovation (OE&I), Projects, Project Management Organization, and Commercial Affairs to ensure Process Safety Management (PSM)/Risk Management Program (RMP) requirements are integrated into the project management process and growth initiatives.

  • Partner with project teams to ensure impacted PSM/RMP-required documentation meets requirements (e.g., drawings, safety systems, relief system design, mechanical integrity, etc.) and Management of Change (MOC) compliance.

  • Develop and maintain PSM/RMP program documentation at a company level.

  • Work with Operations teams to maintain PSM/RMP program documentation at a site-specific level.

  • Lead initial and revalidation Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) for PSM and non-PSM-covered processes and projects.

  • Develop and provide training as required by PSM/RMP programs.

  • Perform periodic proactive inspections of PSM/RMP compliance at impacted sites and support governmental/jurisdictional audits and inspections at PSM/RMP-covered sites.

  • Lead investigations for incidents and near misses at PSM/RMP sites and other events with technical implications as requested by Operations Management.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/ or education.

  • Ideally, 5+ years of operational/process safety-related work experience or engineering experience in the petrochemical industry.

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) standard, EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) standard, and hazard analysis methods/techniques.

  • Solid knowledge/experience with Management of Change (MOC).

  • Ability to use analytical skills to plan methodically and diligently.

  • Ability to develop and maintain highly effective stakeholder relationships.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
