Job Description

Talen Energy has a need for a Senior Environmental Professional . The incumbent will primarily support the Lower Mount Bethel power plant, which is a natural gas station comprised of a 2X1 Combined Cycle with a combine output of 538 mw. The Lower Mount Bethel power plant is located in Bangor, Pennsylvania.

Job Summary

Under general direction, coordinate day-to-day Environmental compliance activities for the facility. Works with some guidance using knowledge of scientific, technical, and engineering concepts in the disciplines required for the specific position, conferring with supervision or other experts on unusual problems. This position provides some guidance and direction to other Talen employees or contractors to support implementation of cost-effective compliance activities. This position requires interface on technical issues and cooperation with a wide array of individuals – other environmental professionals, Plant operators and contractors, regulators and other key stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Evaluates, plans, conducts, directs and supports compliance activities as required by regulation, permit or license, with some guidance.

  2. This position involves managing compliance in the following areas of federal, state and/or local compliance:

Air permits, sources and related rules (Acid Rain, NSR, Ozone, etc); Wastes & recycled materials (hazardous, non-hazardous); Storage tanks; Spill prevention and contingency planning; Chemicals and SDS use/application; CERCLA/SARA/EPCRA (Tier I, II, TRI Reporting, Superfund, Brownfields and Land Reclamation/Act 2); DOT Hazmat; PA DLI Boiler and Pressure Vessel Program; Water Quality and Use (Delaware River Basin Commission; Susquehanna River Basin Commission; NPDES; PADEP); PCB Management; Asbestos Management; Carbon accounting, capture and sequestration; Coal combustion residuals; Endangered and Invasive Species and/or others as required.

  1. Prepares and submits compliance reports and other submittals for review to meet regulatory, permit, and license requirements.

  2. Helps prepare and manage project budgets and contracts for compliance activities.

  3. Provides technical review of state and federal regulations, permit and license requirements, and current operations to ensure compliance is maintained in an efficient, cost-effective manner.

  4. Assists with the design, execution, and technical guidance on compliance monitoring programs for the facility.

  5. Works with employees, contractors, and contracts to insure compliance with all Talen requirements.

  6. Conducts compliance activities safely and directs contractors to adhere to applicable safety requirements.

Basic Qualifications

· Bachelor's Degree in engineering, science or business-related field AND 6 years related experience, OR

· MS/PE in engineering, science or business AND 5 years related experience, OR

· Associates Degree in science or business-related field AND 10 years related experience, OR

· 15 years related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for the specific position.

  2. Experience working with regulatory agencies.

  3. Working knowledge of power plant operation.

  4. Master's Degree

  5. PE License
