We are looking for a School Nurse for CAI Learning Academy to support our student population. This position will be part-time depending and is onsite in downtown Allentown, PA.

What You'll Do

  • Responsible for coordinating, collaborating, planning for, and, in most cases, providing direct services to ensure that the school health program, as defined by the Pennsylvania School Code and the PA Department of Health Division of School Health Regulations is carried out
  • Maintain and/or improve the health status of students
  • Promote optimum health status and lifestyles for all students through the joint efforts of the home, school and community
  • Maintain and update as necessary a comprehensive school health services program for students
  • Maintain comprehensive health records on each child
  • Provide direct services to students in accordance with current medical practice and nursing standards, relevant statutes, and regulations
  • Perform and/or oversee mandated screenings and completes referrals and follow-up where applicable.
  • Manage and control acute and chronic disease
  • Carry out policies and procedures for the control of communicable diseases, in collaboration with the PA Department of Health
  • Provide first aid for illness or injury to students and documents nursing assessment, diagnosis and treatment
  • Establish health care plans for students with special health care needs and update them as needed
  • Ensure that reports required by the PA Dept. of Health and PA Dept. of Education are properly prepared and forwarded
  • Assist in interpreting the health needs of individual children to parents and teachers and assist families in utilizing community resources for improving the health of their children
  • Administer medications and perform procedures according to physician orders and school policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with agencies outside of the school community to ensure continuity of service and care of students
  • Plan with school administration, maintenance and sanitation personnel for the environmental needs of the school group and advise school officials of environmental adjustments necessary to meet the needs of physically challenged individuals
  • Arrange for or teach in-service programs for school personnel in first aid, emergency care procedures and current health issues
  • Advise the school administrator in preparing a budget for the health program

What You'll Need

Required:

 

  • Current PA Registered Nurse license
  • CPR/AED certification
  • Required Act 48 continuing education coursework for Nursing license
  • Required State and Federal clearances

Preferred:

 

  • Background/experience preferred in pediatric nursing or community health nursing
  • Current PA School Nurse Certification
  • Education Specialist II Certificate

Physical Demands

 

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
  • Significant walking/standing may be required
