Thank you.Description OverviewReporting to the site vision group lead, the automation/vision engineer technician will be responsible for the maintenance of automation and vision systems related to manufacturing and packaging operations, oversee controls networks and supporting hardware/software platforms, implement improvement projects, respond to emergency calls, and troubleshoot vision- and controls-related issues with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams. Scope of the RoleWork closely with other functional areas such as engineering, maintenance, operations, IT, and scheduling to implement changes and to investigate and resolve automation and vision issues. The primary scope of support will be the Allegan facilities, but support of the Holland site may also be required. Respond to emergencies and troubleshoot issues affecting day-to-day machine performance and efficiency.Design and implement new features and technologies to enhance machine operability, reliability, efficiency, and safety. Complete projects within established timeframes and budgets to ensure that machine downtimes are minimized. Participate in the change management program to evaluate the impact of proposed changes and support post-change qualification activities.Review technical specifications of new equipment to ensure that automation and vision hardware and software designs align with established standards. Provide post-change documentation such as code comparisons and electrical drawing markups.Meet schedules and deadlines through good attendance and willingness to work overtime and support after-hours emergencies when needed.Experience RequiredHigh School Diploma/GED.5 years of recent and relevant experience programming Allen-Bradley PLC's and HMI's, as well as knowledge of RSLogix500 and Studio5000 is preferred. 5 years of recent and relevant experience with vision systems (barcode scanning, label presence, optical character recognition, etc.) is preferred.Proficiency with hardware design, communication protocols (Ethernet I/P, Modbus, etc.), drives/servos, robotics, I/O sub-systems, and control system design principles.Excellent problem-solving skills, sound decision making abilities, and ability to meet deadlines in a team-oriented environment.Demonstrated self-confidence and ability to work with multiple departments, consultants, and contractors.Working knowledge of AutoCAD software, and the ability to read, understand, and create drawings, flowcharts, and schematics as they relate to control system design documentation.Ability to communicate effectively via email and use Microsoft Office applications such as MSWord and Excel.Comprehensive knowledge of control panel design and control wiring design principles.Strong oral and written communication skills.Strong organization skills and the ability to plan, schedule, and track multiple concurrent projects.Ability to work from ladders/lifts, perform heavy lifting, and provide personal transportation are necessary and essential functions of the job.
