The Building People Space Planner - Hybrid in Alexandria, Virginia

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a qualified Space Planner. The Space Planner will support our government client in Alexandria, VA. The Space Planner will work with the Lead and Senior Interior Designers, as the subject matter expert in planning efficiency and space optimization for restacking and move/change management in existing office space as well as to interpret data provided to create Construction Documents and keeping master plans up to date.

Responsibilities

  • Gather planning data and define optimal functional adjacencies, and lead development of move and relocation sequencing and execution

  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills to comprehend, analyze, and interpret all phases of construction documentation

  • Maintain knowledge of current and future space needs, as well as understanding client direction and workplace needs

  • Analyze space requirements, determine the compatibility of existing spaces vs. defining new spaces, and provide space plans and recommendations as directed

  • Integrate client established standards, incorporate technology and infrastructure considerations

  • Identify existing furniture solutions and evaluate strategic planning initiatives that may impact furniture integration

  • Assess telework agreements and how those agreements may influence furniture layouts,

  • Propose temporary and permanent relocation scenarios, concisely addressing the advantages and disadvantages of alternative solutions

  • Prepare blocking and stacking plans, scenario plans, and move lists

  • Assist is creation of presentations to client

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in office space planning, management, or facilities planning/management. Interior Design or Architecture background is a plus

  • Adept in analyzing space requirements, intended use, and plan accuracy of office environments

  • Experience working in a database program such as Excel

  • Demonstrate detailed analytical and critical thinking

  • Use advanced analytical skills – both quantitative and qualitative as related to space analysis and organization

  • Knowledge of space management, space utilization, and facilities management

  • Skill in analyzing and determining space utilization and facilities inventory

  • Working knowledge of commercial office furniture and specifications

  • Knowledge of relevant building and electrical codes

  • Strong communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail

  • Self-motivated with ability to multi-task and respond in quick time frames, ability to prioritize tasks

  • Protect all sensitive information being evaluated in accordance with Federal regulations and procedures

  • Intermediate skill in AutoCAD, CAFM Software

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Knowledge of construction industry building codes, standard practices, and processes,

  • Ability to contribute to process improvements

  • Preferred experience with Pivot Tables, Move and Space Management, and TRIGIRA

Required Education

  • Bachelors degree in Interior Design or related field, or Bachelors Degree and 3 years related experience with examples of previous work
