Job Opportunity: Certified Pharmacy Technician

Located in Tacoma, Washington

Job Responsibilities: As a contract Pharmacy Technician, your role mirrors that of an Active Duty Military or Government Civil Service Pharmacy Technician. Responsibilities include:

Reviewing and processing prescriptions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to pharmacy SOP.

Independently handling unit dose carts, sterile products, stockage, and bulk drug orders.

Preparing and filling orders for intravenous solutions, parenteral medications, nutrition products, and unit dose orders.

Compounding a full range of sterile products, including intravenous and chemotherapy preparations.

Establishing and maintaining records for pharmacy operations, including prescription and patient records.

Monitoring pharmaceutical inventory, conducting inspections, and notifying supervisors of stock level changes.

Operating and maintaining instruments and equipment for compounding pharmaceutical substances.

Reviewing orders for compatibility, converting instructions, and calculating quantities of solutions.

Packaging, labeling, and handling products in accordance with proper sterile techniques.

Performing final pharmacy checks on bulk drug orders and replenishing unit dose medication carts.

Additional duties as assigned in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS).

Staffing and Scheduling:

Duty schedule provided monthly, subject to change based on mission requirements.

Inpatient shifts 365/7 days a week, including holidays.

Shifts vary between 0500 - 2330 with rotations on weekends.

Break entitlement for shifts exceeding six hours.

Education Requirements:

Certificate in Pharmacy Technology.

Graduate from a formal pharmacy technician program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or a formal pharmacy technician program (technical, hospital, or retail-based) or a formal medical services training program of the United States Military.

Certification:

Must be Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

Must have a Basic Life Support (BCLS/BLS) certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) training program.

Experience:

One year of experience as a pharmacy technician after graduation.

Competency within the past three years in the required clinical discipline.

Inpatient pharmacy experience is required.

Specialty Requirements:

Familiarity with drug characteristics, toxicity, adverse reactions, and drug-drug interactions.

Proficient in pharmaceutical nomenclature, including generic, chemical, and proprietary names of drugs, and dosage forms.

Computer data entry skills.
