The intern will assist the Development team in the Mid-Atlantic Region with a wide-range of responsibilities during the program. The internship will appeal to proactive and self-motivated students with a genuine desire to learn about the real estate business and industry. During the program, you will work on real projects and have real responsibilities. Responsibilities

Work Schedule:• Monday through Friday from 9 AM – 5 PM for a total of 35 hours• Based out of our Alexandria, Virginia Mid-Atlantic office

Highlights of the Internship include:• Work alongside other interns across various majors and universities• Learn from our more experienced team members and best-in-class leaders in the real estate community• Participate in company-wide and departmental meeting and events and a variety of social, professional and networking opportunities

Responsibilities:The Real Estate Development Intern will work collaboratively with the Mid-Atlantic Development staff, focusing on business development, pre-development and close-out activities. This includes performing analysis of proposed multifamily real estate developments that qualify for low-income housing tax credits or market-rate rental housing financed with debt and equity. The Development Intern works in a collaborative environment on the underwriting, pursuit, closing and delivery of multiple multifamily housing communities. Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Progress towards a bachelor’s degree (preferably in Finance, Economics, Real Estate, or in another quantitative or business-related field but not required)• Strong problems solving skills and a desire to put them to use in a meaningful way• The intellectual curiosity to truly learn about all aspects of our business and new tools/skills• Excellent time management and organizational ability• A diligent work ethic and desire to work in a fast-paced environment that supports a balance of independent work and team collaboration• Strong analytical, research, financial modeling, and presentation skills using MS Excel and PowerPoint.• Knowledge of financial modeling, cash flow analysis and sensitivity analysis utilizing NPV and IRR.• Ability to work a minimum of 35 hours per week during the summer with the potential for part-time hours during the school year
