VCA Animal Hospitals Vet Assistant - Radiology in Albuquerque, New Mexico

VCA Vet Care has both primary care (a.k.a. GP) and specialty/ER services, including oncology, surgery, ophthalmology, radiology, and internal medicine. We offer competitive pay, benefits (medical/dental/vision/retirement), and we’re even down to discuss the possibility of some relocation assistance if you’re moving from a distance.   Our hospital is growing by leaps and bounds and we are seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our Radiology team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

· Acts as the patient care and diagnostic technician for the department, providing unique internal customer service, technical assistance, data collection, and patient care.

· Interacts with internal services and their respective staff

· Acts as the primary point of contact for the patient admitting into the unit for diagnostic testing and communicates with the patient’s doctor and team with the most up to date information regarding presenting problem, diagnostics being performed as well as projected plan of care for the animal.

· Performs various technical procedures including; venipuncture, IV injections, drug administration (IV, Oral, Subcutaneous), patient positioning for radiographs, digital image capturing, and various other routine diagnostic testing.

· Provides excellent patient care by applying knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment usage, and specialized drug administration.

· Responsible for supervising, coaching, teaching, orienting and evaluating in the principals of Radiology for all technicians and assistants at Vet Care including Hands Free Radiology!

· Provides quick and accurate information regarding each patient, acting as the liaison between service clinicians and Radiologists.

· Maintains a clean working environment to ensure Infectious Disease standards are followed and infection is not spread. Handles all medical/biological and infectious waste appropriately.

· Follows all radiation safety, OSHA, and Environmental Health and Safety standards.

· Keeps all necessary equipment in clean and working order and has all necessary and appropriate stocked supplies available for procedures and daily patient husbandry.

The skills that you will be learning and utilizing include, but are not limited to: CT Scan operation

· Echocardiogram positioning and assisting

· Ultrasound positioning and assisting Hands Free radiology

· anesthesia monitoring patient recovery compassionate care for our hospitalized patients
