Sandia National Laboratories Physical Security Generalist (Experienced) in Albuquerque, New Mexico

We are seeking a Physical Security Generalist to join our dynamic team.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Answer general security questions

  • Answer security hotline, direct others to proper security department

  • Operate special software: Acknowledge and categorize alarms of every nature

  • Assess alarms in a timely fashion and dispatch personnel to investigate to meet requirements.

  • Routinely ensure compliance with alarm rate requirements.

  • Work closely with field alarm technologists, engineering project managers, FIE badging office, and security officers

  • Coordinate access to special security areas

  • Create spreadsheets for data entry, run reports for alarm activities

  • Respond to customer requests in a timely manner

  • Assist with investigating security violations.


  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline or equivalent experience.

  • Familiarity with DOE Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence Security Directives.

  • Experience with project management.

  • Experience with database administration.

  • Experience with ACS/IDS systems (Diamond, OnGuard, software house, etc.)

  • Active DOE Q Clearance or DoD TS Clearance is required to start.

  • Ability to obtain a SCI Clearance that may require a polygraph.


Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

  • Familiarity with SNL/Field Intelligence Element (FIE) Security Operations such as: Special Security Office, Visitor Control, Personnel Security, Physical Security, Program Security, and SCI access authorizations.

  • Proficient with MS Office applications.

  • The ability to document, organize, and integrate data into various metrics.

  • The ability to prioritize, delegate, and successfully respond to simultaneous and competing requirements.

  • Experience handling and storing classified matter.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Active DOE Q Clearance is required to start.

  • Active SCI Clearance that may require a polygraph.

The Field Intelligence Element (FIE) Operations Group performs high-impact, national security work for a broad segment of the Intelligence Community. The FIE Physical Security Department protects the information of our customers and creates a secure environment that allows Sandia to deliver products and services that protect our nation's security. The functions of this department include program security, visitor control, badge office, protocol, FIE Safety, facility security, and SCIF space.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
