New York Power Authority Senior Electrical Engineer I in Albany, New York

New York Power Authority (Albany, NY) seeks Senior Electrical Engineer I to provide electrical engineering support to all New York Power Authority generating plant and transmission substations throughout the State of New York. Serve as senior equipment engineer. Develop equipment specifications and design packages and provide technical oversight for all substation, transmission and generation systems, in accordance with applicable industry standards. Evaluate technical proposals and electrical equipment functional designs, perform failure evaluations, and provide both planned and emergent on-site support to facilities throughout New York State. Perform factory visits to support design reviews and testing, as well as the ability to coordinate with vendors during the manufacturing process. Oversight of outside consultants. Attend industry conferences and within various technical societies. Develop designs, specifications and engineered solutions for various problems or improvements with electrical equipment and systems. Perform inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification and troubleshooting, or improvements. Provide direction to and review of the electrical design and drafting personnel in the development of the project drawings. Review work produced by other engineers, including the designs and specifications. Mentor and provide guidance for junior engineers. Independently schedule and prioritize requests to ensure deadlines are met. Coordinate work with other disciplines and departments for the successful development and execution of engineering projects. Perform inspections and evaluations on vendor products to ensure engineering requirements are satisfied. Evaluate options for asset optimization, giving due consideration to risks, costs and expected performance. Renew or dispose of aging assets, in compliance with all applicable regulations, as necessary to support the Asset Management (AM) strategy. Identify and prioritize products and services required to execute strategic AM projects. Partner with Strategic Supply Management to manage supplier relationships. Conduct on-going risk analysis using key risk indicators and other risk identification methods considering both likelihood and impact of risks; develop formal risk response plans for risks above accepted risk appetite levels as prescribed in the AM Risk Framework. Periodically conduct audits to assess adherence to, and effectiveness of, AM policies and processes; correct for failures and non-conformities. Regularly review AM System KPIs as prescribed in the AM Governance Framework; take remedial action in response to negative performance trends. After incidents of asset failure, conduct a thorough review to uncover underlying causes; use findings to assess and revise AM processes and procedures. Enter data into the Maximo EAM system as prescribed by the Asset Information Strategy. Improve asset attribute data by remedying discrepancies identified by the Data Quality Tool. Requires occasional travel to factories throughout New York State to conduct site inspections and meetings with vendors. Salary offered: $178,298.Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, and eight (8) years of progressively responsible, postbaccalaureate electrical engineering experience within a high voltage transmission and generation environment, including experience with electric power system projects as applied to the electric utility industry, and demonstrated working knowledge of equipment such as power transformers, power circuit breakers, current transformers, potential transformers, surge arrestors, switching and grounding equipment, as well as underground and overhead cable systems.Email resumes to careers@nypa.gov.
