Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments and determinations in support of Albany Medical College Research operations.

Salary range: $45,308 - $72,492

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments and determinations in support of Albany Medical College operations.

  • Confer regularly with principal investigator to review scientific direction and goals and develop plans for research experiments; design protocols and make modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular experiment as required.

  • Design and troubleshoot experiments to address key research question, seeking advice from the principle investigator as appropriate.

  • Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. Maintain knowledge and expertise through regular reading of scientific literature.

  • Draft manuscripts documenting achieved research objectives. Assist in grant development and writing. Present findings at laboratory and center level venues.

  • Supervise work of lower level laboratory personnel with designated areas and take a lead role in training personnel.

  • Experience in conducting animal experiments with proficiency in handling mice, ensuring ethical standards and scientific accuracy in live model research and data collection.

  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a master's degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related scientific field or equivalent training and experience.

  • Five or more years of increasingly responsible experience conducting laboratory research.

  • A master's degree with a research thesis and/or resulting publications in peer-reviewed journals may be substituted for up to 2 years of laboratory experience.

  • A PhD degree with a research thesis and resulting publications may substitute for up to five years of experience.
