National Grid Communications Tester B in Albany, New York

About the Position:

We are presently seeking a Communications Tester B for an opening in Albany. In addition to a starting wage of $53.22 per hour, we offer excellent benefits including medical, dental, life insurance, 401(k) plan, vacation, tuition assistance and more.

Under general supervision, Communications Technicians install and maintain communications infrastructure, including, but not limited to, two-way radio mobile & dispatch systems, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Fiber Optic Networks, and Microwave Systems. The technicians are responsible for delivering excellent service to the internal customers who rely on communications systems for their daily operations.

Job Qualifications:

  • Two-year Associates Degree (A.A.S.) in Electrical Technology or Computer Science.
  • Minimum 4 years field work, including experience with two-way radio systems, telecommunications systems, IP Addressable devices & Network Topology, fiber optics, microwave, and/or SCADA is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to perform technical work in a field setting under general supervision
  • Must have an unyielding commitment to safe work practices
  • Must have strong computer skills
  • Must have strong communication skills
  • FCC commercial "General Radiotelephone Operator License" is required
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • High School diploma of equivalent required.

Many of the terms and conditions of employment for this position are defined by a collective bargaining agreement that the company has with a local union. Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of this collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.

$53.22 an hour
