POSITION: Assistant Environmental Services Manager

REPORTS TO: Environmental Services Manager

LOCATION: ALB

AIRPORT: Albany International Airport

SUMMARY

Assists Environmental Services Manager in managing and coordinating the activities of the Custodial Department. Management is accomplished in cooperation and coordination with all other Airport Departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to the following:

  • Manages subordinates on a daily basis in the custodial maintenance of airport facilities; prepares staffing schedules, studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements; establishes or adjusts custodial procedures to meet airline operation schedules; maintains time and production records.

  • Assigns tasks and inspects completed work for conformance to standards.

  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment. Assists in procuring and receiving cleaning materials by making inquires to vendors and preparing purchase requisitions.

  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.

  • Assists in the preparation of the annual work plan. Suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency of work crews; reports on and makes revisions to maintenance routines.

  • Oversees training programs.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems; initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals; ensures worker compliance with company policies and safety rules and regulations.

  • Assist in overseeing the performance of sub-contracted service vendors including floor care contractors, window-cleaning contractors, waste removal contractors, regulated waste contractors, and pest control contractors.

  • Participates in Total Quality Management programs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

    Manages and transmits instructions, work assignments and other orders to Custodial Workers. Executes management responsibilities in accordance with Avports policy, procedures and applicable law. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; employee coaching/counseling and progressive discipline, appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Associate’s degree (A.A.S.) in Business Management or related field or five years experience in the custodial maintenance of large facilities or equivalent combination of education and experience. Airport facilities experience preferred.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence and routine reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with issues involving several variables in standardized situations.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Must possess a valid New York State Drivers License as a condition of employment.
