Savannah River Remediation (SRR) is seeking a Saltstone Shift Operations Manager (SOM) to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

The Saltstone Shift Operations Manager (SOM) is a senior leader responsible for managing safe and efficient facility operations on an assigned shift. Directs all aspects of Saltstone operations while on duty by providing work direction and making decisions affecting the accomplishment of work objectives and activities while promoting and ensuring the safety of employees. Position has matrix responsibility for Maintenance, E&I, Work Control, Laboratory, Construction, QA, IH, Technical and HP personnel. Acts as back-up to shift plant management during backshifts, weekends, and holidays during absences. Independently makes decisions regarding emergency actions and non-routine occurrences that affect personnel health, plant equipment, and the environment.

  • Ensures facility activities are performed in a safe and cost-effective manner in accordance with DOE Orders and requirements through implementation of company/site administrative, technical, and response procedures.

  • Ensures that operators under his/her cognizance are qualified for their job and physically fit to perform the work.

  • Conducts concise, informative shift briefings which establish goals and priorities for the shift.

  • Manages operations personnel on a given shift to ensure work is performed efficiently and in accordance with policies and procedures

  • Authorizes work and plant configuration changes (i.e., the removal or return to service of equipment and systems for maintenance, testing, or operational activities, and operational activities that require abnormal lineups)

  • Authorizes the installation of equipment lockouts. Ensures qualified operations personnel install lockouts for maintenance work

  • Communicates with other support organizations to ensure operating activities are performed as scheduled.

  • Performs administrative functions including the training, development and performance assessment of personnel.

  • Assumes primary responsibilities for plant cleanliness, housekeeping, and material condition.

  • Takes appropriate emergency actions, when necessary, to prevent or mitigate the consequences of an abnormal event and places the facility in a safe, stable condition following the event.

  • Ensures appropriate notifications are made in a timely, effective manner, as required by facility events and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned

About us:

Savannah River Remediation LLC, a prime contractor for the US Department of Energy, is responsible for managing the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site’s Liquid Waste operations contract. Located in Aiken, South Carolina, SRR is a limited liability company formed by nuclear operations and environmental remediation global leaders Amentum, Bechtel, BWXT, and Jacobs. The SRR Team is responsible for the closure of waste tanks, the operation of the Savannah River Site’s Defense Waste Processing Facility, tank farm operations and associated production and disposal facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Internal Candidates:

  • High School Diploma or GED with 10+ years field nuclear experience in engineering, operations and/or maintenance

  • OR

  • Associates or non-technical Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years field nuclear experience in engineering, operations and/or maintenance

  • OR

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science or related technical discipline with 6+ years field nuclear experience in engineering, operations and/or maintenance

Must successfully complete a training and qualification program within the first year

External Candidates:

  • Additional selection criteria may apply to external candidates should an open position be filled in that manner. Criteria to be determined at that time

  • Due to the nature of the work, the candidate must be a US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science

  • Previous supervisory experience
