Job Summary:

Pratt & Whitney seeks a motivated, detail-oriented engineer to join the Engineering Support to Operations Compression Systems Design team. In this role the designer is expected to have theoretical knowledge and to work closely with operations, quality, procurement, and engineering discipline SMEs to support all Phase 5 activities related to Delivery, Initial In-Service & Support within Compression Systems hardware.

Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret, define and reviews tolerances and features on part drawings. Performs and reviews tolerance analysis and develop technically sound design solutions within program schedule milestones and requirements.

  • Able to use Computer Aided Design and Engineering tools and may provide input or guidance to lower level professionals with tasks and assignments.

  • Communicate with department leadership and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics (cost, weight, performance, etc.) and perform engineering first piece reviews remotely and at vendor locations

  • Analysis and disposition of quality non-conformances (QNs) for new parts, and supplier requests for information (SRI’s)

  • Develop Class II engineering change packages to improve quality, cost and producibility metrics and support rapid closure of SDO/FPN investigations.

  • Participate as a design discipline lead in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide design solutions that balance performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements

  • Prepare and present status and technical content to CIPT, CSE/ESTO management and Program management.

  • Develop and sustain a healthy work relationship based on mutual trust with peers, internal and external customers where significant interaction is expected

  • English (read, write, speak) is required when communicating with customers, co-workers, or supervisors who only speak English

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and 2 years of engineering experience or an Advanced Degree in Engineering with GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Travel is up to 10%.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year of experience with NX and ANSYS.

  • 1 year of experience in Teamcenter or other PLM systems.

  • 1 year of aerospace experience or with ASME Y14.5 specification.

  • 1 year of understanding technical processes and design requirements of multiple gas turbine hardware (internal, external, static, or rotating hardware).

  • 1 year of gas turbine experience and working in a virtual 3D environment.

  • 1 year with AS9100 or other Quality Management System standards.
