We are currently seeking an Electronics Technician for a long-term contract opportunity in Aguada, PR.

Electronics Technician LF

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

Perform assigned technical and operational tasks related to the maintenance of high power LF transmitters and communications equipment located at the VLF Naval Radio Transmitter Facility (NRTF).

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • The individual shall possess the ability to successfully perform corrective and preventive maintenance on telecommunications/electronic transmitter and receiver equipment, computer systems, network systems, fire alarm systems, CCTV and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS),modems, and other ancillary electronic equipment: maintain and update 3-M and equipment system records of preventive and corrective maintenance performed; complete supply documentation required to acquire required repair/replacement parts; perform duties consistent with the Navy Calibration System for the calibration of test equipment; demonstrate abilities to perform circuit board repairs in accordance with commercial standards; and assist with operating and maintaining station facilities systems.

  • Individual must possess the physical ability to perform climbing duties, freedom from fear of heights, and possess normal depth perception and balance.

  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on shore based communications equipment. In support of the optimum operation and effectiveness of the communications-electronics equipment, the incumbent must apply comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems that can typically be solved by properly evaluating and interpreting manufacturers' manuals, technical documents, schematic diagrams, and blueprints.

  • Determine requirements for repair parts, spare parts and other support equipment necessary for maintenance and repair of repairable modules, assemblies and sub-assemblies.

  • Perform testing, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation on all assigned communications-electronics equipment and repairable modules, assemblies and sub-assemblies.

  • Remove and replace components such as transistors, integrated circuits, resistors, capacitors, inductors, transformers, indicators, etc., utilizing appropriate hand tools and equipment. Modify modules, assemblies and sub-assemblies in accordance with field change directives and/or other authoritative sources.

  • Assist in the preparation of formal reports relating to the condition of equipment, frequency usage, circuit and signal levels, and any other report requirements that may be requested by the Project Manager.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned when necessary to accomplish work assignments.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    Education

    Successful completion of post-high school education at an accredited college, junior college or technical school which included courses in electronics engineering or successful completion of U.S. Navy Class C school (or equivalent) in electronics courses that provided skills and knowledge necessary to maintain high power transmitters and receivers, with emphasis on maintenance and repair of printed circuit cards, electronic equipment modules and sub-assemblies, and VLF transmitter site communications systems. Specialized experience in excess of four years may be substituted for education requirements.

    Experience

    Individual shall possess a minimum of four (4) years specialized experience in diagnosing and correcting malfunctions and performing organizational-level maintenance on electronic equipment and systems of which two (2) years must include operation and maintenance of high- power transmission equipment (with power output greater than 1,000 watts) and systems at a military or commercial transmitter site. Specialized experience in diagnosing, isolating and correcting malfunctions and performing organizational level maintenance to the communication electronic equipment configuration of the station/site to which employed. Which includes the LF transmitter AN/FRT-95D, NATO formatters, and all electronic/mechanical ancillary LF related equipment installed at the facility.

    Must be proficient at utilizing all computer terminals and all data/signals processing equipment at the facility.

    Must possess a DOD secret security clearance, Puerto Rico Elecronic's Technician license and a valid driver's license.
