How will you make an impact?

The primary function of this role is to develop a wholistic understanding of the Thermo Fisher Scientific product range to be the lead systems and integration engineer for the Process Analytics product portfolio. Working closely with the mechanical and electrical teams to trouble shoot issues, assist in developing new applications, and support electrical and electronics development for the product range to meet customer and global regulatory requirements.

Additionally, this role will play a key part in our operations team with an electrical engineering focus supporting both customer orders and product sustaining work.

Key Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Own and promote a culture of “Safety First” and “Right First Time, On Time” by maintaining a safe work environment, a high level of safety awareness among associates, and implement 5S principles.

  • Meet customer satisfaction goals for timely delivery as well as ongoing quality and reliability standards, working closely with Supply Chain, Customer Service, Manufacturing, Quality and Project Management functions.

  • Be a part of the business PPI-Lean Enterprise program, certified to ISO 9001- Quality Management System (QMS) actively use practical process improvement (PPI) tools and 8-step methodology to evaluate (audit), identify, develop and implement improvements, and embrace the SQDC culture.

  • Design electrical and electronic systems and instruments for industrial and mining applications ensuring that all designs are fully documented with detailed component specifications and approved manufacturers lists and maintaining Bills of Material (BOMs) in ERP system

  • Keep up to date with current industry standard methodology to provide product expertise as required to meet the objectives of the Engineering Team, and provide advice to the wider organisation as a recognised SME

  • Implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) at the direction of senior engineering staff

  • Work with the operations and R&D teams to provide design for manufacturability input on equipment designs through the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process or New Product Introduction (NPI) process

  • Work with global engineering, sales, and operations team members to implement custom engineering projects which may require Project Management and coordination of design projects to meet quality, delivery and cost targets

  • Participate in supplier qualifications/audits and support quality team to develop suppliers quality performance.

  • Sound understanding of fundamental Electrical principles developed by designing of electrical/electronic and pneumatic control systems for harsh environments (EMC/EMI, surge protection etc.)

  • Experience with MCC and PLC layout and development and PLC programming or other relevant structured programming language

  • Understand and apply electrical/electronic and system engineering standards for different countries in the product design, i.e. CE, CSE, etc.

  • Strong understanding and application experience in industrial, automation and structured programming including different fieldbus, i.e. Profibus, Profinet, OPC, Industrial Ethernet, Modbus etc.

  • Experience in instrumentation and electrical system design, cables, reticulation, specifications, etc including circuit design using modern design practices

  • Practical hands-on experience of electrical wiring and solving electrical and electronic issues

  • Experience with Embedded System Design, Mains Power Design, VFD’s (Variable Frequency Drives) and Electrical motor knowledge (AC and DC)

What will you bring to our team:

  • Degree qualification in a Mechatronic or Electrical Engineering or equivalent

  • Formal Electrical, Computer Science or Project Management studies are desirable

  • Minimum 5 years work experience in an appropriate engineering role. Experience in minerals processing, slurry transportation, materials handling and/or heavy industry would be desirable but not essential.

  • Demonstrated knowledge or and experience working to engineering and AS/ISO standards, including the ISO 9001: Quality System.

  • Knowledge of relevant codes and underlying theory.

  • Ability to read and understand engineering plant drawings and P&ID diagrams.

  • Presentation and communication skills to develop high levels of credibility with customers.

  • Self-motivated and committed with an ability to run schedules and maintain critical timelines.

  • Proficient user of 2D and 3D drawing packages (AutoCAD, SolidWorks preferred) and Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to program PLC or exposure to control systems is ideal or will be required to be developed
