Microsoft Corporation Software Performance Engineer in Acton, Massachusetts

The Software Performance Engineer will be part of a team that plays a key role in the development and delivery of our 3gpp mobile core solutions. Employ tools and techniques to characterize and improve system performance in Microsoft’s products. You will blend your positive attitude with the magnitude of Microsoft to empower our worldwide customers by delivering highly available carrier grade telco services.

Our mobile core solutions are deployed at major telco customers across the globe. We are looking for a Software Performance Engineer who can work with senior staff to influence the current product design and future evolutions to ensure the products continue to meet the high bars of Carrier Grade performance and scale in evolving networks and technology. Your role will be to measure and improve the performance and scale of the packet core products through software characterization and measurement supplemented and validated by external testing and customer checkpoints. You will prototype and develop software improvements working with other developers and a cross functional team during the requirements and design phases to influence the design decisions. You will interact with testers to ensure that the appropriate outcomes are validated. You will provide input to a simulation & modeling effort to ensure that the model captures accurate system performance behaviors. You will interact with customers to gather information, explain test results, and provide design guidelines in written and oral presentations.


  • Actively participate in development processes to review, measure, prototype, develop, document, explain and influence

  • Learn from senior staff to improve/introduce product performance

  • Contribute to customer briefings and presentations


  • Strong SW development skills, C++, Python required

  • Familiarity with performance engineering concepts with a proven demonstrable level of impact

  • Familiarity with carrier grade telco product design to meet SLAs.

  • Familiarity with all aspects of the software development process – concept architecture, design, implementation, testing and support.

  • Familiarity with Mobile core technologies, including 3gpp, EPC Virtualization, M2M and LTE is strongly desired

  • Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills

  • BS in Computer Science or related field required. MS in Computer Science or a related field is strongly desired
