Full Time | Day Shift | 8am-4:30pm | Monday - Friday

* Pay rate between $33.50-$38.91/hour *

What will I do as an RN - Infection Preventionist for The Wesley Community?

  • Develop, implement, and revise IPCP in order to prevent, recognize, and control the onset and spread of infection within the facility.

  • Develop, update, and maintain an antibiotic stewardship program that includes antibiotic use protocols and a system to monitor antibiotic use.

  • Make rounds to nursing units for the purpose of case findings, review of environmental sanitation procedures, and supervision of isolation precautions/practices.

  • Prevent and control outbreaks and cross-contamination using transmission-based precautions in addition to standard precautions.

  • Review and analyze infectious disease laboratory reports and consult with the director of nursing services in developing a plan for assuring aseptic techniques are implemented.

  • Provide the Infection Prevention Committee and QAPI Committee with a data driven report of pertinent findings and recommendations to improve infection control processes and outcomes.

  • Monitor infection prevention practices and procedures to ensure that all personnel are implementing our standard operating procedures for tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids.

  • Implement hand hygiene (hand washing) practices consistent with accepted standards or practice, to reduce the spread of infections and prevent cross-contamination.

  • Ensure proper storage, handling, processing, and transport of linens to minimize contamination.

  • Ensure that all personnel follow established procedures for the disposal and removal of infectious and contaminated materials from the facility.

  • Assist in developing and implementing guidelines for all sanitation of equipment performed in the facility.

  • Interpret and revise infection prevention policies and procedures as needed.

  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting etc., as necessary.

  • Report any necessary reportable diseases to the county and state health departments.

  • Making sure we are in compliance with NYS standing order protocol as it relates to infection prevention.

  • Monitor vaccine storage and handling.

  • Maintain professional affiliation related to infection prevention.

  • Works onsite at the facility in at least a part time status.

  • Has specialized training in infection prevention and control.

  • Schedule, chair, and conduct Infection Prevention Committee meetings.

  • Attend and report in QAPI meetings.

  • Attend and participate in Leadership Meetings.

  • Develop and implement a practical system of reporting, detecting, evaluating, and recording of infections which originate with facility personnel.

  • Orient new employees to the importance of the Infection Prevention & Control Program, policies and procedures, personal hygiene, handwashing techniques, etc., as well as the employee's responsibility in following our established procedures for tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids.

  • Perform daily evaluations of employee illnesses as directed by the Employee Health Coordinator for infectious type illness. Follow-up with employee as needed for Infection Control.

  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with all department directors and personnel to assure that Infection Prevention services and activities can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the resident.

  • Maintain an excellent working relationship with the medical profession and other health related facilities and organizations.

  • Obtain culture samples in accordance with our established procedures.

  • Participate in the planning, conducting, and scheduling of timely in-service training classes and educational programs relative to Infection Prevention.

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective orientation program that orients the new employee to our Infection Prevention & Control Program.

  • Attend and participate in continuing educational programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession, as well as to maintain your license on a current status.

  • Assist in developing/conducting a training program for all personnel required to perform tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.

  • Assist in monitoring nursing care to assure that all residents are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity and respect while in isolation.

  • Assist in explaining to the resident the necessity of isolation procedures as necessary.

  • Assist in developing policies and procedures in the handling and disposal of needles and other sharp instruments.

  • Assist the Housekeeping Supervisor in developing and implementing waste disposal policies and procedures for infectious wastes, supplies, etc.

  • Make sure that appropriate protective clothing/devices are on hand for handling infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.

  • Assist department heads in developing policies and procedures to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases.

  • Assure that the facility is in compliance with current CDC, OSHA, and local regulations concerning Infection Prevention and Universal Precautions.

  • Assess and/or evaluate new or improved resident care products or procedures.

  • Provide cross coverage for Employee Health when needed.

    RN - Infection Preventionist Requirements :

  • Diploma from an accredited School of Nursing.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

  • Current registration with the New York State Board of Nurse Examiners.

  • Certification in Infection Control preferred or to be completed within 3 months of hire.

  • 5 years' experience as a Registered Nurse.

  • 2 years Long Term Care nursing experience preferred.
